The Ellwood City defense put up a resounding effort Friday night on the road Friday night, shutting out the Shenango Wildcats 21-0. The Wolverines defense held the Wildcats to 47 yards of total offense and forced two turnovers in the victory. Offensively, Tyler Smiley tossed two first half touchdowns, first a 2-yard toss to Anthony Barberio in the first quarter and then finding DaiLonn Currie on a 8-yard scoring strike in the second quarter. Ellwood City, Riverside Each Fall In Season Openers

Ellwood City and Riverside each fell in their respective season openers Friday night. The Wolverines fell 43-14 to Laurel at Helling Stadium. Spartan running back Kolton Carlson collected three 2nd quarter touchdowns as Laurel exploded for 22 points to break a 7-7 tie. Carlson finished with 115 running as the Spartans posted 238 on the ground in the victory. Ellwood City will open its regular season next Friday versus the Laurel Spartans. Tickets for the August 22nd home football game versus Laurel can be purchased online at https://gofan.co/app/school/PA6449.
