PHOTOS: Ninth Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest

Unseasonably warm weather welcomed the hundreds of festival-goers at the ninth annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest held in Ewing Park on Saturday afternoon. The Ellwood City Wolves Club, Rotary Club of Ellwood City, Ellwood City Lions Club and Pete’s Uptown Beer and Beverage were major players in the annual event that featured over 100 kraft beers, plenty of food, and musical and other entertainment. In addition, the festival continues to see an increase in home brewers in attendance, with this year offering over a dozen different home brewers on the festival grounds showcasing their specialty brews.


Ellwood City Lions Club “Follow My Leader Essay Contest”

The Ellwood City Lions Club is pleased to announce the winners of its 5th annual “Follow My Leader Essay Contest.” The contest gave all fifth graders at Hartman Elementary School a chance to read the book Follow My Leader by James B. Garfield. In the book, 11-year-old Jimmy Carter is forced to learn a whole new way of life after he is accidentally blinded by a firecracker. Jimmy is paired with, and trained to use, a guide dog named Leader. The book shows how the boy’s accident and resulting blindness impacts the lives of Jimmy, his family and his friends….


Lion’s Club Fountain Reappears After Years of Absence

After years of absence, the Lion’s Club water fountain is back in Ellwood City – bigger and better than ever! On the corner of Lawrence and Sixth, a brightly colored lion statue sits, donated by the kindness of one of the Lion’s Club founding member’s daughter. After nearly 30 years in the community, the old fountain had to be taken down due to wear and tear about 5 years ago. The club then started fundraising for a new fountain and the daughter of Floyd V. Ellwood City Lions Club November Student of the Month

The Ellwood City Lions Club honored Nikol Damato as the November 2015 Student of the Month at their membership meeting Tuesday evening at the Connoquenessing Country Club. Nikol is a senior honor student at Lincoln High School and a member of the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership and Student Council. She attends Christ Presbyterian Church and serves as the club officer for the high school March Of Dimes (Co-President/Secretary), the History Club (Vice President) and Y-Teens (President).
