Free Basketball Camp Draws 42 Participants

The free co-ed basketball camp at Ewing Park for 6 to 12-year-olds was held Monday, July 29th through Friday, Aug. 2nd from 10 a.m. to Noon. Forty-two campers were taught ball handling, dribbling, passing, defense, foul shot and layup shooting form and some rules of the game. The camp concluded Friday with games of knock out, horse, a shooting competition and games of five versus five. They were also treated to a pizza party. PHOTOS: 2024 Ellwood City Arts, Crafts & Foods Festival

The annual Ellwood City festival took place this past weekend, bringing thousands to the grounds of Ewing Park for food, crafts and entertainment. The weekend included its annual 10k race and culminated with a fireworks spectacular Sunday evening. Bristol Borselli was crowned 2024 Little Miss Firecracker on Friday. In a four-part series, EllwoodCity.org looked a series of subjects, people, and entertainers who will help the festival make its mark this 4th of July holiday season. 4th Annual Dog Days Of Summer Returns Next Weekend

Woof, woof! The fourth annual Reed’s Services Dog Days of Summer event will take place next weekend in Ewing Park. The multi-day event is scheduled to take place 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21st and Saturday, June 22nd, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23rd. The event is rain or shine, pet friendly, and will benefit police K9 unites in Lawrence and Beaver counties. Little Miss Firecracker Pageant Set To Take Stage

Folino Stage is about to shine again with a lot of sparkle and spunk as 17 local ladies take the stage for the 7th annual Little Miss Firecracker Pageant. The show will begin at 11:15am after the raising of the flag, on Friday June 28th kicking off the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food and Entertainment Festival. The Borough of Ellwood City will be holding its 2024 Summer Playground Program again at Ewing Park this summer. New Advocacy Group Formed to Preserve Ewing Park, Oppose Planned Softball Field

A new advocacy group has been formed to preserve Ewing Park. The Citizens for Ewing Park Preservation (CEPP) group was announced during Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors Committee Meeting Monday evening. Chairperson for the group, Karen Mancini, is a resident of Beatty Street, which faces the old Ewing Park School property where the district has proposed and plans to construct a girls softball field. Annual Storytelling Festival Set For September 16th

Ellwood City’s 22nd Annual Storytelling Festival will be held Saturday September 16th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Folino Stage in Ewing Park. The show features four professional Storytellers: Janel Behm, Tim Hartman, Mike Perry, and Starla the Storyteller. Musicians, Sandi and Jerry Rectenwald will tell stories through their music! Wolves Club Hosts Picnic To Honor Riverside Baseball Team

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday, August 9th at their Shelter in Ewing Park and honored the Riverside High School Baseball Team. A picnic was held to honor the accomplishments of the team who went undefeated in their regular season, competed and won in both the WPIAL Championship and the PIAA State Championship. The Panthers are the first WPIAL team to win a state baseball title with a perfect record. The Club recognizes area residents and school sports teams under their Pro Bono Publico Award. Pickleball Court a “Hit” in Ewing Park

If you have noticed something new this year in Ewing Park … it’s probably the pickleball court. Councilwoman Judith Dici saw the sport growing in popularity and when she realized that it was a sport that many ages and skill levels could enjoy, she decided to bring the idea to Ellwood City Borough Council.
