Coach Rak’s Free Basketball Camp Continues to Make a Difference

More than 40 local children spent part of their summer on the basketball court thanks to the third annual Coach Rak Free Youth Basketball Camp. Open to boys and girls ages 6–12, this year’s camp welcomed 40 young athletes—25 boys and 15 girls—for five days of basketball fundamentals, skill development, teamwork, and fun. Whether campers were picking up a basketball for the first time or sharpening their skills, each child was encouraged to learn, improve, and enjoy the game. 2026 Little Miss Firecracker Pageant Announced

The line up for the annual Little Miss Firecracker Pageant has been announced. The patriotic pageant will kick off the Ellwood City Festival on Friday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. on the entertainment stage in Ewing Park. “We are very excited to have so many bright personalities in this large group of 16 girls this year! It will be quite the show,” says Pageant Chair Jenn Greco. The event with have returning emcee, Rochelle Spagnolo on stage interviewing the girls and will feature a guest appearance from the 2025 winner, Alexandria Smith. Registration For 2026 Summer Playground Program At Ewing Park To Begin June 5th

The Borough of Ellwood City is ready to launch its 2026 Playground Program and is working hard to make sure its another fun summer at Ewing Park! “This program is important to the children of Ellwood City, as it provides a safe, supervised program, complete with a meal and snack,” says Borough Manager Jeff Foley. “The program hosts a variety of different educational guests throughout the summer, including Search and Rescue squads, the Fire Department, Police Department and Sheriff’s Department.” The counselors have been hired and will be CPR/First Aid certified. Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest Returns October 4th

Conceived by Wolves Club member Matt Walley in 2010, the Annual Ellwood City Oktoberfest turns 15 years old this year. It started out as a fundraiser for the club with games, local brewers, craft beers and food. Donnie Iris, member of the 1970s band Jaggerz made an appearance in 2011 with samples of his beer King Cool Light. The event benefitted the Library, Christmas in the Park and Wolves Club Scholarships. In 2012, the Wolves Club built relationships with other service clubs in the area. A free, five-day co-ed basketball camp took place last week for 44 players at the Ewing Park Basketball Courts. The camp was scheduled for any boy or girl aged 6–12 and ran from 10 a.m. until noon. Camp director Bob Rak led the camp with assistant coaches Father Joe Freddy, Mark Garvin, Brad Brown, Joe Fisher, and Herm Petti. Ellwood City Tennis Conducting Mini Clinic In June

Ellwood City Tennis will be conducting a tennis clinic for any boy or girl interested in learning the basics of tennis. The tennis clinic will be held on June 23rd, 24th and 25th, 2025 at the Ewing Park Courts from 10am to 11:15am. Any child ages 5-12 is eligible to sign up and participate. Each participant will receive a t-shirt. The clinic will promote tennis skills from the basic to moderate level. “The participants will learn skills pertaining to tennis. A free, five-day co-ed basketball camp is scheduled to begin at the Ewing Park Basketball Courts from Monday, July 28th thru Friday, August 1st.
