Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall Coming To Ewing Park

The Ellwood City American Legion Post 157 is hosting the Vietnam Moving Wall in Ewing Park on August 18th through August 22nd.

The event is free to the public.

The Moving Wall will be located in the same area of Ewing Park as the Festival. Specifically it will be to the right of the Folino Shelter (the stage) running a total of 253 feet in a v-shape and parallel to Washington Ave.

Parking is available in the swimming pool parking lot.

The Moving Wall is the only replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. and remains the only one that is maintained by the same Vietnam Veterans who silkscreened the first name onto the first panel at the beginning in 1983, created with love by Vietnam Veterans and their friends.

There are more than 58,000 names of those who gave their lives on the wall, nine from the Ellwood City area.

The wall is 253 feet long with 74 separate panels.

As of January 1, 2021 the Moving Wall has been displayed in over 1,000 communities and is returning to Ellwood City for the second time.  The first ceremony took place in Helling Stadium during the 2009 Ellwood City Arts, Crafts & Food Festival. The late Dom Viccari first helped bring the exhibit to the borough to draw attention to Sabo, who at the time was under consideration for the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor.

The group had previously planned to host the wall two years ago, but postponed the project due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initial cost of bringing the wall to Ellwood City was over $26,000 plus lodging for the accompanying crew, 24 hour security, lighting, tens, assembly and signs. Volunteers are used to help assemble and disassemble.
