ECPD Completes Training and Earns Certification

On Tuesday, September 26th Mayor Anthony J. Court and Ellwood City Police Department conducted a training session at the Ellwood City Rod and Gun Club Range. The training consisted of firearms certification, taser certification, practical exercises and officers certified with the department’s new PepperBall Gun, which is another less lethal tool to be used by the Ellwood City Police Department. Officer Matthew Morabito is the department’s PepperBall Gun instructor. MAYOR: Speeding Enforcement In Borough

Mayor Anthony J. Court and the Ellwood City Police Department wants to announce that next week throughout the Borough of Ellwood City, Officers of the Ellwood City Police Department will again be conducting speeding enforcement. The department will be using their certified Enrad Laser speed timing device. Citations WILL BE issued for non-compliance. Mayor Court says his message is quite clear – PLEASE SLOW DOWN or face the consequences!

Ellwood City Decorated with Signs & Teal Ribbons For SAAM Day of Action

Mayor Anthony J. Court, Ellwood City Council and the Ellwood City Police Department joined forces with ARISE, formerly the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County, on Tuesday, April 4th to recognize SAAM Day of Action. The first Tuesday of every April is the Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) Day of Action. The Day of Action is an opportunity to start off the month with highly visible and coordinated actions. They assisted ARISE staff by decorating the city with signs and teal ribbons to raise awareness in Lawrence County. Mayor, Council Recognize Police Involved in Active Shooter Event

During Monday’s Borough Council Meeting, Mayor Anthony Court and Ellwood City Police Sergeant Michael McBride recognized numerous officers for their quick response during an active shooter event that occurred in Ellwood City on January 30. Ellwood City Police Officers Joshua Sipe, Matthew Morabito, William Duaphen, and Matthew Kennedy; Pennsylvania Police Troopers Wier, Burkhart, and Stambul; Shenango Township Police Officers Corporal David Lough and Patrolman Daniel Tressler; Franklin Township Police Officer Matthew Straub; North Sewickley Township Police Officer Brian Watkins; and Lawrence County District Attorney’s SIU Detective Mangino were each given a commendation during the meeting. Mayor Court Warns Against Excessive Speeding

Mayor Anthony J. Court has issued a statement regarding excessive amount of speeding throughout the Ellwood City Borough. According to the mayor’s office, Court has made Ellwood City Police Department officers aware of the situation and has noted that the speeding will not be tolerated. “This excessive speeding has led to law enforcement to crack down against speeding,” says Court. “The message is quite clear to please slow down!” According to the information made available by the mayor’s office, speed traps will be conducted in the very near future. Municipal Women’s Club Hosts New K9 Officer During January Meeting

The Ellwood City Municipal Women’s Club hosted the newest Ellwood City K9 Officer “Nico” as part of its January meeting last month. The K9 and his handler Officer Rich Kruger put together a wonderful demonstration of Nico’s skills for the members in attendance. The program was hosted by membership chairman Joanne Lowrie. The German Shepard is just under two years old and was introduced to the ECPD in February 2022. “We are so fortunate to have a K9 in our community,” said Lowrie in a statement. Officer Howard Sworn In To The Ellwood City Police Department

Mayor Anthony J. Court swore in Officer Joseph Howard into the Ellwood City Police Department this week. The new officer was sworn in at Mayor Court’s office on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Officer Howard is a part-time officer with the department.  A motion to approve his employment was passed the Ellwood City Borough Council during its November council meeting. Mayor Court proudly welcomed Officer Howard to the police force and noted that he is looking forward to working with him. The Ellwood City Police Department now has 11 full-time officers and 3 part-time officers in the department.

ECPD Completes Tactical Entry & Life Saving Measure Training

The Ellwood City Police Department would like to thank Samuel Teolis for allowing the use of a vacant structure to conduct a tactical entry and life saving measure training. On Thursday, June 9th, the Police Department, along with the Ellwood City Fire Department, utilized Mr. Teolis’s vacant structure to complete this training as a team to assist in keeping our tactics fresh. This training was completed in conjunction with the Ellwood City Fire Department, who provided first-hand knowledge in tactical medical assistance and preservation of life skills. Ellwood City Borough Council Awards Commendations, Hires Police Officers

The Ellwood City Borough Council awarded two commendations during its regular meeting Monday night. The first commendation was given by Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court and Ellwood City Police Sgt. Michael McBride to Darrell Hunt, a street department employee, who was integral in helping the police department solve a recent criminal case. He witnessed the criminal activity and reported it to police. Court said Hunt’s swift actions led to an arrest of the suspects involved. Ellwood City Police Department Receives New Weapons

On December 14th, 2021, the Ellwood City Police Department put into service 5 new shotguns and 5 new AR-15 patrol rifles. The guns were purchased with funds from Drug Seizure Money. These new and improved weapons have replaced weapons that were 25 years old. The new weapons will help the Officers better protect and serve the community.
