Ellwood City, Franklin Twp Police To Participate In “No Shave November”

Say no to the blade and yes to cancer awareness.

This month, both Ellwood City and Franklin Township Police Departments will be participating in ‘No Shave November’, a month-long journey whereby participants ditch razors and forego shaving and grooming facial hair as part of an effort to raise awareness and money to fight cancer.

The Ellwood City Police Officers will be putting down their razors and making a monetary donation to Club Hope to help in the fight against cancer. If you would also like to make a donation to Club Hope, the Ellwood City Police Department will be collecting donations Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Ellwood City Police Department, 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City.

ECPD invites the community to follow along on their Facebook Page for updates throughout the month of November. Please make your comments and let us know which Officer you think has the best beard.

The Franklin Township Police Officers will be making a donation of their own for the privilege of growing out a beard, and the township is also asking you to join the effort. At the end of the month, the Charity chosen by the Officer voted to have the “best beard” will receive the donations that have been collected.

According to NationalToday.com, the idea of using facial hair to create awareness during November started in 2003 in Australia with a group of friends who coined the term, “Movember,” in reference to how they will be growing out their mustaches and collecting money for mens’ health charities during that month. The Movember Foundation and No-Shave November are two separate entities, but they are both supporting and call for the same thing – stop shaving (or grow a mustache) during the month of November to spread awareness and donate to these types of charities. In the past decade and a half that the two charities have been around they’ve been able to raise millions of dollars in support of charities that research prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer prevention.
