POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

THEFT: 
PSP Beaver responded to a report on June 28th in the Homewood Boro in Beaver. Officers responded to a report of tools being stolen from a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado truck, which was parked in the rear parking lot in the Super 8 Motel. It was discovered that an unknown suspect had stolen a gutter bender, nail gun, air compressor and a jig saw from the truck bed and tool rack of the Silverado. The suspect loaded the said tools into a silver Dodge Caravan, which had a black hood and black trim around the vehicle. Any persons with information can contact PSP Beaver at 724-773-7400.

TERRORISTIC THREATS: 
The Beaver Patrol Unit responded to a call on June 27th in the Darlington Boro and found that Leah Wood, 29, of Darlington, PA and Dustin Bailey, 25, of Darlington, PA, had been in an on-going neighbor dispute that began Friday June 25th. On Sunday, June 27th, Bailey walked out onto Morris Street carrying what appeared to be two pistols while Wood was at her vehicle. Bailey walked towards Wood while “banging” the two pistols together before pointing one at her and mimicking the recoil of the pistol. Bailey then fought with and resisted arrest by Trooper Arendosh and McGeary before being brought into custody. Bailey was taken to the Beaver County Jail on charges of Terroristic Threats, Simple Assault through Physical Menace, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest.

USE/POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, DRIVING W/O LICENSE: 
Charles Jenkins, 50, of New Castle PA, was charged with Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving Without A License on May 26th in New Castle. Officers initiated a traffic stop on Jenkins’ vehicle, when asked if he had an ID, Jenkins said he did not have an ID on him and admitted to never having a license. Upon investigation, an open beer container was discovered and what appeared to be an alcoholic slushie. After a consent search from the owner of the vehicle, a plastic bag containing a ball of ashen gray powder of suspected fentanyl wrapped in a lottery ticker was discovered. As well, it was discovered after a consented search of Jenkins, that in his pockets he had a glass pipe used for smoking crack in his pocket. Nothing else was found.

DUI/UNSAFE DRIVING, SPEEDING, CARELESS DRIVING, PUBLIC DRUNKINESS, DISORDERLY CONDUCT: 
Crystal Bailey, 43 of Butler, was arrested on May 11th 2021 in the Slippery Rock Township and charged with Driving Under the Influence. Trooper Brett Santarelli was dispatched to a Sheetz on US-422 after receiving a call from an employee saying that Bailey had seemed to be inotxicated. It was reported that Bailey was unable to operate the order screen at Sheetz and continued to walk around the store for 10 minutes and had asked if the staff had taken her purse. She also told the staff they were terrible employees and then left the facility. Tropper Santarelli was able to observe Bailey in her 2008 black Nissan Rogue going eastbound on US-422. He intiated a traffic stop after Bailey had exceeded the speed limit and touched the white fog line of the right side of the road twice and weaved towards the center lane of traffic. After performing the walking and turn portion of the SFST’s , Bailey was placed into custody fro suspicion of DUI and was transported to UPMC Jameson. After being transported to the hospital, Bailey was transported to PSP New Castle to be processed.

POSSESSION OF FIREARM PROHIBITED, FIREARMS NOT TO BE CARRIED W/O LICENSE: 
Ian Smith, 24, of New Brighton, was arrested recently for the charges above in New Castle PA. Trooper Micheal Dunlap observed a 1989 red Lincoln-Continental traveling South on Moravia Street. After running the plate, the owner/operator was identified to have an ID only. Smith attempted to exit the vehicle and Trooper Dunlap asked him to stay in the car. Upon approaching the vehicle, an AR pistol was observed lying on the driver’s seat next to Smith. Trooper Dunlap then asked Smith to exit the vehicle. While standing at the rear of the vehicle, Smith related that he did not have his ID on him but admitted to knowing that he did have a drivers license. Smith also admitted to having a concealed carry permit. Trooper Dunlap then removed the firearm from the vehicle. No record of sale was available and it was not reported stolen at the time. The gun was later identified to be taken out of Tennessee by unknown persons.

RESISTING ARREST, HARASSMENT: 
Quinton Roach, 57 of Ellwood City, was arrested after an incident on June 22nd 2021. The Ellwood City Police Department were dispatched to Circle Way for a Domestic in progress with possible weapons. Upon arrival, a black male with a ripped shirt and a 14 year old black female were identified as siblings. The officers were advised that Roach was their mother’s live in boyfriend. Roach had thrown her to the ground and stepped on her face. The 14 year old tried to stop him and was grabbed up and choked by Roach. She had visible swollen injuries to her arm and scratches to her neck. Officers separated Roach from the mother. She had redness and swelling about her facial area. She advised that Mr. Roach had been drinking and became upset throwing her to the ground and stepping on her face. Officers had to forcefully handcuff Roach. Roach is charged with resisting arrest and harassment.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS: 

  • On July 6th, PSP New Castle was dispatched to a two vehicle crash with injuries on Old Mercer Road in Lawrence County. On scene it was found that the first vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox had pulled off of Old Mercer Road in front of the second vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Trax. All four occupants in the second vehicle were taken to the hospital for their injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was cited.
  • New Castle State Police responded to a one vehicle crash on July 7th on Route 376 in Lawrence County. The vehicle, a 2015 Chrysler 200 was going westbound on Route 376 when a deer entered the roadway from the berm, causing the operator to swerve, exiting the roadway, striking a guide rail. There were no injuries as a result of this crash. The vehicle was then towed.

DUI:

  • Kevin Zang, 53 of Ellwood City, was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence, Careless Driving, and Reckless Driving on June 17th in Ellwood City after police were dispatched to Golf Avenue in reference to a motor vehicle accident.
  • Candice Clark, 29, of New Castle, was charged with Driving Under the Influence. Officers initiated a traffic stop due to Clark’s headlight being out. Upon contact, an odor of marijuana was detected. After a consent search, a burnt marijuana blunt was discovered on the floorboard of the front driver-side seat.
  • Jessie Holliday, 32, of New Castle, was charged with Driving Under the Influence and multiple other charges on March 25th 2021 in New Castle PA. New Castle Police observed a blue Hundai Elantra violating multiple traffic laws. Upon approaching the vehicle, it was noticed that Holliday appeared very disoriented and was sleepy with slurred speech and had bloodshot eyes. Upon searching the vehicle, suspected marijuana was discovered in a plastic bag was found as well as a multicolored container containing a white powdery substance (suspected cocaine) and a plastic bag containing copper wire. Holliday relayed to the Officer that the powder was crack cocaine and the wire was used for her crack pipes. Holliday then relayed that she had smoked crack and injected heroin earlier that day. Holliday was then placed into custody and was then transported to UPMC Jameson for a blood draw.
