Ellwood City baseball and softball teams each earned WPIAL playoffs berths last year and each program will look to continue to build on last year’s success in their respective 2022 campaigns. Ellwood City Baseball Wraps Up Impressive Fall Campaign

The Ellwood City High School baseball team wrapped up an impressive fall campaign, making a run in the single elimination playoff tournament before ultimately falling to defending WPIAL Champion Hopewell last weekend. The Wolverines finished 8-4-1 earning a 3-seed in the playoff picture. Ellwood City defeated Beaver Falls and Riverside before falling 6-0 to the Vikings in the championship game. 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament To Begin Tonight

BATTER UP! The 70th Ellwood City Little League Tournament will begin on Tuesday night at Freidhoff Field. The tournament, which began in 1952, is the second oldest Little League tournament in the country next to the Little League World Series which is in its’ 74th season. Ellwood City will meet Neshannock at 6:00 PM and Riverside will meet Shenango at 8:00 PM. Ellwood City has won the last two titles with a 10-8 victory over Riverside last season and a 4-2 win over Mars in 2019. Ellwood City has the most championships with 14. The Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Quaker Valley 5-1 on Saturday. Prior to the contest, the Ellwood City seniors were recognized with their parents as part of the Senior Day game. After a relatively quiet first five innings, Ellwood City scored four runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Aaron Falk powered the Riverside Panthers to a 6-2 victory over Ellwood City Friday afternoon. Falk drove in runs with a single in the first, a double in the second, and a home run in the fifth inning. Ellwood City defeated Shady Side Academy 4-0 on Monday as Ryan Gibbons and Ryan Hampton combined to toss a three-hit shutout. Ellwood City fired up the offense in the first inning, when Samuel DiCaprio singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Ariana Garroway was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in four runs on three hits while Natalia Greco slugged a homerun to power the Wolverines past North Catholic 9-6 on Monday.
