PHOTOS: Nardone, EC Baseball Shutout Central Valley; Softball Defeats Tigers

Ellwood City sophomore Will Nardone pitched six scoreless innings Wednesday afternoon as the Wolverines easily dismantled the visiting Central Valley Warriors 10-0 at Sanders Field.

Nardone allowed only three singles on the afternoon. He stuck out five batters while issuing only three walks.

Offensively, senior Chase Wilson reached base four times (3-3, 2 RBIs, 1 BB) and scored three runs for the Wolverines. Joining Wilson with multiple hits were Jordan Keller (2-4, 2 runs) and Ryan Widmaier (2-2, 2 runs, 1 BB).

Ellwood CIty scored four runs in the second inning to chase Central Valley starting pitcher D Nalli. The Wolverines tacked on two runs in the sixth inning to evoke the mercy rule.

Ellwood City (4-10 Overall, 1-7 Section 1-3A) next hosts Hopewell on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

ELLWOOD CITY SOFTBALL DEFEATS BEAVER FALLS

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Beaver Falls and took care of business with a 18-0 five inning mercy rule victory.

Six players had two hits on the afternoon including Julia Nardone, Amber Mcquistion, Sara Schwarz, Liz Mihalko, Ellie Kalantzis, and Natalee Gillin. One of Nardone’s hits was a 220 foot bomb over the left field wall and one of Mcquistion’s hits was a three run triple. Aliya Garroway and Lexi Beck added doubles while Kiley Leviere contributed a single.

Mcquistion bounced back in the circle with a two hitter over five innings of work. She struck out 9 and walked just one batter.

With just two section games remaining, the race for first place is extremely tight. Central Valley and Hopewell are tied for first place with 6-2 records while Ellwood City and Mohawk are deadlocked in third place with records of 5-3. Ellwood City will meet Central Valley next week while Mohawk has a date with Hopewell.

Ellwood City will entertain Quaker Valley for Senior Night on Friday at Stiefel Park. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
