Annual Earth Day Event Cancelled, Virtual Art Contest Announced

The Lawrence County Earth Day Committee announced the cancellation of the annual Earth Day festivities.  The event will be replaced with a virtual art contest. In the statement received this week, the committee stated, “We are committed to keeping our visitors safe and healthy at Earth Day; therefore, the Lawrence County Earth Day Committee has decided to cancel the event scheduled for April 18th in Ewing Park.” In lieu of holding the event, a virtual art contest for all ages will be held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. State Police Releases Non-Life-Sustaining Businesses Enforcement Totals

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania State Police released data on actions taken against non-life-sustaining businesses that failed to comply with Governor Tom Wolf’s order closing their physical locations. Enforcement began on Monday, March 23, 2020. On Thursday, Pennsylvania State Police issued a total of 21 warnings, bringing their week total to 78 warnings.  No citations have been reported. A total of four warnings have been reported in the troop coverage area that includes Ellwood City.  The coverage area consists of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. Borough Council Extends State of Emergency For Ellwood City

During a special Friday afternoon meeting, the Ellwood City Borough Council extended its State of Emergency in response to the ongoing novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) global pandemic. By law a declaration of a local state of emergency may not extend past seven days unless approved by the governing body of the borough  or municipality. Wayne Township Announces Modified Meeting

To mitigate the COVID-19 spread, the Wayne Township Supervisor meeting, scheduled for Thursday April 2, 2020 has been modified to transact essential business only. The Board of Supervisors will be participating in a “Conference Call Business Meeting” for the April Board Meeting. Ellwood City Annual Easter Egg Hunt Cancelled

According to information made available this afternoon, the 25th Annual Easter Egg hunt has been cancelled. In a statement from the committee, and due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Ellwood City Area Egg Hunt has to cancel this year’s community Easter Egg hunt that was suppose to take place on Saturday April 4, 2020. PIAA: Spring Sports Postponed Another Two Weeks

On Monday, Governor Wolf issued a “stay at home” directive to citizens in seven counties for the next two weeks. This directive also closes all commonwealth schools and all non-essential businesses for another two weeks. The Governor is taking a measured approach in mitigation to assist in combating the coronavirus. Therefore, the start of spring sports is postponed another two weeks and the possible re-start of the winter championships will continue to be on hold. BC3 Informed That Student Tests Positive for COVID-19

Butler, PA- Butler County Community College was notified today by a student that the student who attends BC3’s main campus in Butler Township has tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last on BC3’s main campus March 9. The college today alerted students who attended classes with the student and faculty who taught the courses. It also notified other students, faculty and staff.
