Ellwood Chamber of Commerce Director Resigns

Lori Hilliard, the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, submitted her letter of resignation to the Chamber’s board on November 5. Hilliard cited spending more time with her parents and grandparents and having a job that will have a more flexible work schedule as reasons for her resignation. Floyd L. Mayberry, 74

Floyd L. Mayberry, 74, of Portersville Rd., Ellport passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 at UPMC Passavant Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 6, 1940 in Ellwood City,he was the son of the late Floyd E. and Betty Russell Mayberry. He was married for 56 years to Judith A. Grady Mayberry as they were married Sept. 23, 1959. She survives. Floyd was a lifelong mechanic. He worked at many local companies including 27 years at Halstead Industries, three years at SSD Distribution, three years at Trinity Industries and eight years at BNZ Materials. Council Approves Drug Clinic 4-2

In a 4 to 2 vote, the Ellwood City Borough Council approved Freedom Health Care Services, a drug and alcohol addiction clinic, to be located on 773 Pershing St. About a dozen visitors arrived to protest the clinic, focusing their opposition on the location, which is near a residential area and a bus stop. Council to Vote Today on Addiction Treatment Clinic

Ellwood City Borough Council will vote today on a proposal by Freedom Health Care Services to open a drug addiction clinic on 773 Pershing St. in Walnut Ridge. Contrary to information in a video report, Freedom Health Care Services is not a methadone clinic. The facility will not have any methadone. It is a counseling treatment facility for those with addictions. Freedom Health Care Services is a drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility located in Bridgeville. Council to Vote on Proposed Addiction Treatment Clinic

At its regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 21, Borough Council will vote on a proposal to establish a medical clinic/outpatient addiction treatment facility. Council held a public hearing on Monday, Sept. 14 regarding the request by Freedom Healthcare Services. The proposed facility will be on 773 Pershing St. in Walnut Ridge. The building used to be an orthopedic doctor’s office. Should the School District Move to a Later High School Start Time?

The Ellwood City After Prom Party was held on Friday evening at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Center. The After Prom was formed in 1948 by fraternal, veterans and civic organizations of Ellwood City. Lincoln High School students arrived at the Catholic Center following their prom in Butler. Romans’ Rescue

What started as a one dog rescue in 2008 for Tawnya and Daniel Roman has now turned into a non-profit organization. Romans’ Rescue takes in dogs to train them or nurse them back to health in order to help them find a new permanent home. The Roman’s first dog was a four-year-old Saint Bernard named Riley. The couple found the dog in an Internet advertisement after she had been dropped off at the groomer and never picked back up. Local Hospital ER Ranks in Top 5 Percent in Country

Jameson Heath System’s Emergency Department has been ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for emergency medicine excellence, receiving the 2011 Emergency Medicine Excellence Award. An analysis of emergency room data from 2006 to 2008 was conducted in April by HealthGrades, the nation’s leading independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings. The study looked specifically at the mortality rates of over 4,900 hospitals across the country. It showed Jameson hospital within a group of only 255 hospitals (5 percent) with a notably low mortality rate in emergency rooms. Only 11 hospitals in all of Pennsylvania were…
