Riverside Wins Wild 15-13 Slugfest Over Ellwood City

In a rivalry game that saw two wild rallies and 30 combined hits, the Riverside Panthers responded last in its 15-13 road victory over Ellwood City on Saturday. After taking a 7-5 lead in the top half of the fourth inning, only to surrender eight runs in the bottom half, the Panthers rallies late with a seven run fifth inning to take its final lead in the contest. High school sports are back in full swing. Football, soccer, and tennis are among the popular sports for students at Riverside. PHOTOS: Annual Lincoln High School Pie Festival

With the chance of inclement weather in the forecast Thursday evening, the annual Lincoln High School Pie Festival was moved indoors to the Lincoln High School gymnasium.  The move did not impact the band who entertained those in attendance with tunes to help roll out the 2019-20 school year while fall sports teams were introduced. The celebration and introductions were coupled with hundreds of custom pies baked and donated by Debbie’s Delicious Desserts.  All proceeds benefited the Lincoln High School Marching Blue Band.

Festival Announces Little Miss Firecracker Participants

On Friday, June 28, Ellwood City’s Folino Stage will again ‘light up’ as 17 young ladies vie for this year’s title of Little Miss Firecracker. The 5th annual pageant is the kick-off for the 39th Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, and Entertainment Festival and will begin at 11:15 am. The three-day festival will take place in Ewing Park, Ellwood City. Pageant participants range from ages 5-7 and live within a 15 mile radius of Ellwood City. Local Man Gains Support in Plan to Save Festival Fireworks

He’s a man on a mission to keep the traditional Festival Fireworks display shining bright. Eric Rayner, 25, Ellport, will have his chance to lead a community-wide effort to raise funds to keep the fireworks display. Humble about his plans, Rayner insists that he just stepped up because he saw a need. “This isn’t about me,” he said. “This isn’t a me thing. The Riverside Panthers boys basketball team was defeated by Beaver Falls 68-39 Tuesday night.  Senior basketball players and cheerleaders were recognized as part of senior night festivities prior to the tip-off. Junior Ben Hughes finished with 11 points for the Panthers who could not overcome a 20-point first quarter outburst by the visiting Tigers. Jalen Vaughn (22 points) and Gage McKelvey (21 points) led the offensive output for Beaver Falls (9-11 overall). Historical Society Fall Meeting A Success – Rain And All

Everyone was welcomed to the first Fall meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.  Approximately 70 people attended the dinner which, because of the weather, was moved from Ewing Park to Calvin Presbyterian Church.  Following the invocation by Charles Brown everyone enjoyed a “picnic” dinner prepared by Nico’s Restaurant. Following dinner, a short business meeting was held.  Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as written.
