If you thought last year’s Fall Fest was crowded, this year is expected to be even more populous according to Borough Manager, Bob Villella. “This year there is expected to be at least 600 vehicles at the car cruise and upwards of 6,000 in attendance. That’s an increase of nearly 2,500 people since last year,” Villella stated. The Little Beaver Historical Society, located at 803 Plumb Street, Darlington PA., 16115, will be hosting a fall festival on September 9 and 10 from 9a.m. – 5p.m. All of the Society’s buildings including the Greersburg Academy, the Red Brick Museum the McCarl industrial museum, 1820’s log cabin and forge will be open during the festival and free to tour. Kids activities include an Archeological dig to find Native American arrowheads and then try to identify them at the Red Brick Museum, kids will get to keep 1 arrowhead they find. Fall decorations are taking the town by storm as the community prepares for tomorrow’s Fall Fest. There are stocks of straw wrapped around lamp posts, vendor stands are slowly starting to appear, and store owners are putting the finishing touches on their storefront-autumn themed decorations. Ellwood City is two years into a establishing a new annual tradition: Fall Fest. This year’s fall fest will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Ellwood. “It’s a community oriented event featuring local businesses,” event chairman Bob Rivers said. “Everything will be free or low cost.” Last year, the Chamber of Commerce decided to resurrect Fall Fest, which hadn’t been done in many years. Ready, Set, Go … to the Ellwood City Main Drag Derby and Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 27. The day starts at 9 a.m. when the derby cars will begin to glide down Lawrence Avenue, and it will continue until 4 p.m. with activities at Fall Fest. So far there are 32 participants in the soapbox derby-style race including 25 stock car, four super stock cars and three vintage cars. Both Ellwood City and Riverside school districts will kick off their respective back to school seasons with community events on Thursday, August 22nd. Ellwood City will host its annual Lincoln High School Marching Blue Band Pie Festival at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. Tickets are $5.00 to redeem for an Amish hand pie and bottle of water. Gates open at 6:00. Show starts at 7:00. Blue Band Boosters will serve pie 6:00-7:00 and will resume serving after the show so everyone can celebrate the athletes and enjoy the show.
