Lawrence County Announces $800,000 in Paving and Transportation Grants Awarded to 16 Municipalities

Lawrence County Board of Commissioners announced Tuesday that $800,000.00 has been allocated by the county to assist 16 municipalities with 38 paving projects, 3 culvert replacements, 1 stormwater reclamation project, and 5 capital purchases. This investment represents the single largest general appropriation of county transportation funds for municipal transportation projects ever approved by Lawrence County. This funding supplements municipal funding for road repairs and capital purchases and assists with $3,287,143.09 in total countywide transportation investments. Mr. Frank J. Aquino, 84, of Ellwood City passed away on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 at the UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle. Mr. Aquino was born in Beaver Falls on February 15th, 1937 to the late Dominic and Mary (Reda) Aquino. ‘VJ Day’ Ceremony Planned

American Legion Post 157 will be having a ceremony commemorating VJ Day (Victory over Japan). The event will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Legion Park in Ellwood City. World War II Pearl Harbor Survivor Turns 101

Happy (early) Birthday to Ellwood City’s Joseph Michael Gasper, who is turning 101 on Tuesday, April 23. He is our area’s last World War II Pearl Harbor Survivor. Gasper, who has lived in Ellwood City ever since he was discharged from the Army in 1945, is still very sharp and enjoys talking with his friends and family. Last year he was feted to a grand centenarian birthday party that included a gun salute from the Veterans Guard.
