Richard Alan “Hoppy” Hopkins, 54, of Koppel passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at VA Medical Center – Oakland. Born November 15, 1967 in Bethesda, MD, he was the son of Kenneth Hopkins and Ruth London Hopkins Middleton. He was a lifelong member of the United States Military, where he started his career in the Marine Corp. and retired from the Army as an Administration Sergeant. THEFT: Micah Ndungu, 20, of Ellwood City, is charged with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property after an incident on July 23rd. According to the criminal complaint, Ellwood City Police were called to Fifth Street for a report of theft. The victim reported he was attempting to sell an iPhone 11 Pro on Facebook Marketplace for $400.00 and was meeting the purchasing party at McDonald’s. ELLWOOD has announced plans for significant investment in its New Wilmington, Pa, ELLWOOD Specialty Steel (ESS) facility. The investment will give ESS the ability to produce its own Aluminum Tooling Plate (ATP) to better meet its customers’ needs. Mrs. Sandra K. Hardesty, 76, of Bessemer, formerly Ellwood City, passed away on Sunday, July 17th, 2022 at the UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle. Mrs. Hardesty was born on March 11, 1946 in Pittsburgh to the late John V. and Marietta (Bassler) Markle. HHSDR Provides Helling Stadium Update, Presents Proposal for Perry Lower Renovations

Representatives from HHSDR Architects/Engineers announced during Thursday night’s Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors meeting that construction is on track at Helling Stadium for the proposed September 28 completion date. They said that all the “in the mud” type work is finished. They expect the turf work to begin after Aug 8, which is the expected arrival date of the materials. CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: According to a police report, two unknown white males proceeded to operate a Farmall tractor with a brush hog attachment and mow approximately 1,000 feet of wooded area along private property lines at Del-Mar Golf Course in Wayne Township. The incident was reported to have taken place between the times of June 25th at midnight and June 26th at 9:53 a.m. While police were on scene, trail cameras were reviewed along with a neighbor canvassed none of which yielded with identifying the potential suspects.
