CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Jason Mulig, 47, of Ellwood City is charged with Criminal Mischief and Public Drunkeness after an incident on November 6, 2022. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 3:27 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the area of First Street, near Keystone Bar, due to Mulig jumping onto a victim’s car and damaging the hood. Upon reviewing surveillance, it showed Mulig walking from across Fountain Avenue and jumping onto the hood of the vehicle causing $2,388.13 in damage and then finished what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage and threw it into the side of the building….


David James Mastropietro, 78

Mr. David James Mastropietro, 78, of Wayne Township passed away on Monday, January 16th, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Heritage Valley Medical Center. Mr. Mastropietro was born in New Castle on May 29th, 1944 to the late James Joseph and Helen (Valentine) Mastropietro. David graduated from Mohawk High School with the class of 1962 where he was a record setting track star and Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1966. Richard Foster Moreland, 85, late of Wampum, PA passed away peacefully on, January 4, 2023. Richard was born December 15, 1937 to the late Beatrice Crandell and Foster Corwin Moreland in St. Louis, MO. He was married on January 15, 1966 in Seattle, WA to the love of his life, the late Julia Lee Scott Moreland, who predeceased him in 2009.  Richard was a scholar and a gentleman. HARRASSMENT: On December 16th at approximately 8:00 p.m., PA State Police received reports of an altercation that took place at a residence on Orchard Avenue, Ellwood City Borough between a 46-year-old Ellwood City man and a 15-year-old male victim. Upon police arrival it was determined that a physical altercation took place, and both parties requested not to prosecute. Mrs. Vivian M. Rue, 82, of Franklin Township passed away on Sunday, December 25th, 2022 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver with her loving family at her bed side. Mrs. Rue was born in Ellwood City on May 1st, 1940 to the late James and Hazel (Palm) Flesher. She had worked at the J & T Custard Stand, Ellwood City Knitting Mill, and Fotia Bros.. David Allen Attends Last Meeting As Ellwood City Borough Manager; Council Welcomes Kevin Swogger

David Allen attended his last Ellwood City Borough Council Meeting as Borough Manager Monday night. During his four years serving the community, he fought for the sale of the Ellwood City Medical Center following years of controversy following its closing. He also had to manage the city during the pandemic. Council members expressed thanks to Allen and wished him well in his next chapter. THEFT ALL OTHER: On December 5th, at approximately 11:51 a.m., PA State Police responded to a reported theft of a real estate sign. This occured near the intersection of 16th Street and W. Lawrence Ave., Wayne Township. This theft occurred approximately between 10/31 and 11/14 according to the report. The real estate sign is an Advantage Homes Real Estate sign that is predominately blue in color with white lettering. The sign is valued at $350.00. The investigation is ongoing. Ellwood City School District’s Board of Directors Names New President, Vice President

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors held it’s combined voting and reorganization meeting Thursday night. During the reorganization meeting, Kathy McCommons was named board president, with support from Directors Norman Boots, Renee Pitrelli, Jennifer Tomon, and Kathy Tillia. Jean Biehls was also nominated with support of Directors Erica Gray, Claire Fauzey, and Gary Rozanski. Biehls had served as board president previously.
