Wolverine Wrestling Collects One Win In Laurel Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team finished 1-4 in the 2021 Laurel Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend at Laurel High School. The Wolverines collected its 39-24 victory over New Castle on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. Ben Gallenz (106 lb, EC) pinned Kortel Marshal at 0:24 and Rodney Grymes (189 lb, EC) collected a decision victory 11-7 over Noah Shields to lead the Wolverines.  126 – Dom Dausman, 132 – Elijah Shelby, 152 – Ryan Nazari, 160 – Chris Quintanella, and 285 – Donovan Stiffler all collected forfeit victories for Ellwood City. Lady Wolverines Surge In Second Quarter, Race Past Riverside

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines used a 21-1 second quarter surge to race past the visiting Riverside Panthers 45-11 Monday Night at Lincoln High School. After exchanging scores early in the first quarter, Ellwood City posted their impressive run in the second quarter taking an 8-6 advantage to a comfortable 29-7 halftime lead.  Great defense translated to multiple fast break points and layups for the Lady Wolverines. Wolverines Cruise To Road Victory Over Mohawk

Ellwood City jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 71-44 section victory on the road Tuesday night over Mohawk. Alexander Roth and Steve Antuono each scored seven first quarter points for the Wolverines who jumped out to a commanding 27-6 lead. BC3 Cancels Seasons Of 3 Indoor Intercollegiate Sports

(Butler, PA) The seasons of Butler County Community College’s three indoor intercollegiate athletic programs postponed last fall to this winter have been canceled with continued regard to COVID-19 and in observance of out-of-state travel orders announced by the state Department of Health on Nov. 17. The college announced Monday its cancellation of its men’s and women’s basketball seasons, and of its volleyball season for the 2020-2021 academic year. BC3 will determine later whether the seasons of its intercollegiate athletic programs in baseball, golf and softball will be held. After pacing most of the game and leading 37-33 heading into the fourth quarter, Ellwood City could not manage a field goal and only two points – Steve Antuono free throws – in the final frame, letting the lead, and game, slip away in falling 47-39 to Neshannock. Riverside Girls Basketball Ready To Ball With First-Year Head Coach

The Riverside Lady Panthers will travel to face Mohawk on Monday, January 11th before settling in to its first home game on Thursday, January 14th versus the Laurel Spartans.  The team will welcome the long overdue season and begin with new faces, players and coach, on the bench. “We lost a lot of scoring due to graduation, so we will need players to step up into the role of scoring production,” said first year head coach Renee Drake.
