Junior High Softball Team Defeats Mohawk; Record Improves To 11-2

The Lady Wolverines put together another solid team effort and defeated Mohawk on Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park by a score of 13-3.  The game was shortened to 5 innings due to the mercy rule. Ellwood City Varsity Softball Mercies New Castle 11-0; Record improves to 11-5 In a game that featured two playoff-bound teams, The Lady Wolverines came away with a convincing win on Tuesday afternoon at Stiefel Park. Ellwood City walked it off via mercy rule in the fifth inning with an 11-0 victory. Winning pitcher Angelina Nardone twirled a gem in the circle with an efficient 5 innings of work. Wolverines Keep Playoff Hopes Alive, Shutout Shady Side Academy

Ellwood City defeated Shady Side Academy 4-0 on Monday as Ryan Gibbons and Ryan Hampton combined to toss a three-hit shutout. Ellwood City fired up the offense in the first inning, when Samuel DiCaprio singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. The Wolverines put up a four-spot in the first frame, accounting for all of the game’s offense. Both teams accounted for only seven hits – all singles. Gibbons got the win for the Wolverines. EC Varsity Softball Team Defeats Hopewell, Earns 10-Win Regular Season

The Lady Wolverines closed out section play strongly as they defeated Hopewell Thursday afternoon by a score of 9-0.  The team improves to 10-5 on the season and finished section play with a record of 7-3. Makinley Magill got things started in the top of the second as she laced a double into left-center field.  Magill scored as Kyla Servick’s perfectly placed bunt single was thrown into right field for a two-base error.  Ariana Garroway walked with two outs to put runners on first and third.  Garroway and Servick then executed a double steal to plate the second run. Riverside Boys Track & Field Advance to WPIAL Championships

Two-time defending WPIAL champion Riverside boys track & field team advanced to the WPIAL championships this week after semifinal meet victory on Tuesday. The Riverside boys will go for their third title in a row and will attempt to knock off Class AA challengers Shenango, South Park and Waynesburg.  Last year the Panthers defeated Mohawk, South Park, and Freedom to claim its championship. Ariana Garroway was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in four runs on three hits while Natalia Greco slugged a homerun to power the Wolverines past North Catholic 9-6 on Monday. Garroway drove in runs on a grand slam in the first as the Wolverines batted around and raced out to an early 9-0 lead at home. North Catholic scored five runs in the third inning, but Wolverines still managed to pull out the victory. Garroway went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Wolverines in hits. Varsity Softball Knocks Off Previously Unbeaten Avonworth Record Now 8-4 Avonworth walked into Stiefel Park with an unblemished 13-0 record and were ranked as the #1 team in WPIAL Class 3A. They left with their first loss of the season as The Lady Wolverines made a statement with a convincing 6-1 win. Lincoln Girls Basketball Team Earns A Commendation

Council President Judith Dici presented a Commendation to the Lincoln High School girl’s basketball team for their successful season and trip to the playoffs. Pictured left to right: Assistant coach Paul Hervatine, seniors Natalia Greco and Isabella Roth, assistant coach Vanessa Venezie, Council President Judith Dici, Councilwoman Marilyn Mancini and assistant Principal John Sovich. The Lady Wolverines, under the direction of first-year head coach Marc Heil (not pictured), earned a playoff birth after a 13-10 regular season.  The team fell in the Class-3A playoffs to Carlynton in February.


Junior High Softball Team Gets Lit Up By Armstrong; Record Falls To 6-2

As Armstrong entered the bottom of the fourth inning to hit, they held a 4-1 advantage. 15 batters later, the Lady Wolverines were getting on the bus and heading home with a 16-1 defeat that was ended by the mercy rule in that same 4th inning. Armstrong put on an offensive show with 14 hits including two homers four doubles, and one triple.
