BC3 Places 7th In National Golf Championships; Pioneers’ Morgan 1 Stroke Short Of All-american

(Chautauqua, N.Y.) For the second consecutive year, a Butler County Community College golfer fell just short of All-American status at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championships at Chautauqua Golf Club. Noah Morgan, a sophomore and graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Foxburg, finished the four-round tournament with a 318 and 1 stroke behind a Georgia golfer who placed 18th. Wolverines Can’t Catch Up To Keystone Oaks

Ellwood City fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-4 loss to Keystone Oaks in the WPIAL Class 3A semifinals Wednesday. The Wolverines lost despite out-hitting Keystone Oaks 11 to seven.  Keystone Oaks collected four of their hits in a six-run first inning. In the first inning, Keystone Oaks got their offense started with two walks and two fielding errors by Ellwood City. Ellwood Wrestler Representing Team Pennsylvania

Lincoln High School wrestler Austin Walley recently finished third in both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Pennsylvania/USA Wrestling State Championships held at Central Mountain High School in Lock Haven. His performance qualified him to compete at the US Marine Corps/USAW Junior National Championships for the third straight year.  The tournament will be held July 12-19 in Fargo, North Dekoda.  Walley will also represent Team Pennsylvania at the USA Wrestling Junior National Duals in Tulsa, Oklahoma June 18-22.  


Lady Wolverines Collect Another Upset, Advance In WPIAL Playoffs

The Ellwood City Wolverines softball team rallied and nabbed the lead late in an 11-10 victory over South Allegheny on Monday in the second round of the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs. The victory over the #2 seed South Allegheny team was the Wolverines second consecutive extra-inning victory after knocking off Freeport last week. Riverside Boys Qualify For State Track & Field Championships

After taking home their third consecutive WPIAL Track & Field Championship, the Panther team victories seem to continue on. Ten boys on the track and field team have qualified for the state championships within eight relay and independent events. Lady Wolverines Stave Off Freeport, Advance In WPIAL Playoffs

The Lady Wolverines withstood two furious comeback attempts by Freeport, finally advancing with a wild 14-11 victory over Freeport on Thursday. Freeport rallied back from an 8-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead, and later answered an Ellwood City three-run seventh to force extra innings. Wolverines Strike Late, Upset Deer Lakes In WPIAL Opening Round

Ellwood City snagged a late lead by way of an unusual series of events and held on to defeat Deer Lakes 2-1 on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with the Wolverines batting in the top of the seventh when Ellwood City used ‘small ball’ and gained the go-ahead run on a strike out that led to a wild pitch. The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines’ Softball game that was originally scheduled for today at 4:00 PM at North Allegheny has been postponed. The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 16, at 4:00 PM at North Allegheny.

After trailing for much of the game, a four-run rally by Ellwood City was later outdone by a 5-run final frame by Neshannock leading to a 10-7 road victory for the Lancers at Stiefel Park on Wednesday.
