Petrak Shines As Ohio State University Swimming Repeats As Big Ten Champs

Former Lincoln High School graduate Taylor Petrak helped propel the Ohio State Buckeyes to a successful repeat of its Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championship crown last month.

Petrak, a Ohio State University senior, is now one of 12 Buckeye women’s swimmers that have descended upon the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C., to compete at the 2021 NCAA Championships this weekend.

Petrak swam on 2021 Big Ten champion and school-record setting 400 medley relay (Emily Crane, Hannah Bach, Katie Trace and Petrak) and on the 200 free relay (Crane, Petrak, Katherine Zenick, and Amy Fulmer) for the Buckeyes during its repeat effort in February.

Petrak also sprinted into the B finals of the 50 freestyle in a T14th at 22.22 and has earned 1st team All-B1G swimmer honors.

Ohio State qualified all five of its relay teams to the NCAA Championships.

The Buckeyes come into the championships as the No. 10 ranked team nationally by the CSCAA.

This is the first NCAA swimming and diving championships since 2019 with last year’s event cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, Petrak was part of a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay team (Fulmer, Petrak, Zenick and Rayner) and a seventh-place performance in the 400 medley relay team (Crane, Bach, Zenick, Petrak), and will compete on Saturday in the 100-yard Freestyle (Amy Fulmer, Taylor Petrak, Katherine Zenick).

Petrak, who just missed the podium in the 50 and 100 freestyle at 2021 Big Tens, finishing fourth in each, is an experienced performer for the Buckeyes and swam on 200 and 400 freestyle relays at 2019 NCAA Championships and qualified individually as well for the 2020 championships in the 50 free.
