Jumpin’ Joe! – Roth Scores 35 Points, Wolverines Improve To 12-2

Ellwood City big man Joseph Roth showed his prowess on both ends of the court Tuesday night, collecting 35 points and hauling in 20 rebounds to lead the Wolverines to a 49-35 victory over section foe Laurel. After an uneventful first quarter, Roth heated up and scored 11 points in the second quarter that saw the host Wolverines pull away for a 19-9 halftime advantage. Ellwood City Wrestling MAC Tournament Results

The Ed Driscoll MAC Wrestling Tournament is one of the biggest wrestling tournaments that features some of the best talent from all around the country. The 24 team tournament saw Quaker Valley crowned as top overall team win with 223 points, beating out other powerhouse teams such as West Allegheny, Laurel, Montour, and Central Valley.  Ellwood City finished 11th overall with 39.0 points. ECASD Hires Head Football Coach; Approves COVID Health and Safety Plan

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors hired Daniel Bradley to serve as head coach of varsity football. Bradley received unanimous support from the board. He will be paid $7,000. “The students are elated,” said Brian Partridge, football boosters president, who was in attendance at the meeting. Bradley has a decade of experience serving as head coach. During that time, he has a 80-33 record. He has appeared in four WPIAL title games, with a winning title in 2018. Wilmington Greyhounds Defeat Trinity On Senior Night

The Wilmington hockey team defeated Trinity at Hess Ice Rink on Senior Night by a score of 7-6. The seniors class honored prior to the game were Ayden Leslie (Mohawk), Bo Leslie (Mohawk), Cody Williams (Ellwood), Dom Serafino (Wilmington), Drake Tomak (Ellwood), Josh Work (New Castle), Logan Popovich (Wilmington), and Tyler Girman (New Castle). The Greyhounds got on the board first with goals by Williams assists to Tomak and Work and Davis Phanco (Wilmington) from Noah Monstwil (Mohawk) and Justin Girman (New Castle). Splash Bros Lead Wolverines Over Lancers

“Splash Brothers” Alexander and Joseph Roth combined to score 43 points Friday night to power the visiting Wolverines to a 56-34 victory over Neshannock. In a rematch of last year’s WPIAL Class-3A playoff semifinal, Ellwood City led the wire to wire for the impressive road victory in the match-up of two loss section foes.  The Wolverines had previously upset the 2-seeded Lancers in last year’s WPIAL Championship run. Holy Redeemer’s Cash & Golf Bash Less Than Two Weeks Away

Less than two weeks are left until Holy Redeemer’s Golf Bash takes place on Sunday, January 16th. The Cash & Golf Bash will be hosted at the Catholic Center located at 311 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City. Roth, Wolverines Knock Off Rival Riverside

Senior Alexander Roth connected on six 3-pointers en route to his game high 26 points to lead Ellwood City to at 63-40 victory Tuesday Night over rival Riverside. Roth scored 16 points in a first half that saw the Wolverines race out to a 39-24 halftime lead. In a well rounded effort, Roth added five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Wolverines Cruise To Christmas Tournament Championship

Ellwood City traveled north for the Mercer Christmas Tournament and found no resistance in District 10 as the Wolverines earned the tournament championship Tuesday evening. The defending WPIAL Class-3A Champions defeated Saegertown 77-36 on Monday and then host Mercer 74-49 on Tuesday. The Splash Brothers, Alexander and Joseph Roth, each scored 47 points over the two-game tournament. Senior Alexander had a game-high 24 points Monday while sophomore Joseph scored a game-high 25 points Tuesday in the championship game. Tomak Scores 5 Goals, Leads Wilmington Hockey To Victory

The Wilmington Co-op Hockey team upset a first place Carrick hockey team by a score of 9-8 Monday behind an impressive five goal game by Ellwood City senior Drake Tomak. The visiting Greyhounds jumped out to a 4-1 first period and 9-4 advantage after two periods before holding off Carrick for the victory. Tomak lit the lamp twice in the first period with assists from Logan Popovich (Wilmington) and Davis Phanco (Wilmington).
