Both area softball teams were victorious in action on Thursday with Ellwood City blasting South Park early on its way to a 12-3 victory while the Riverside Panthers clinched the program’s first winning season since 2014 by defeating Mohawk 9-8 at home on Thursday.  The Riverside baseball team overcame an early deficit to also win Thursday, defeating Laurel 10-9 at home. Two Lincoln High School Students Sign Letters of Intent

In the past week, two Lincoln High School seniors have signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Ryan Gibbons signed his letter on April 29th. He will be attending Westminster University where he will major in Engineering and will continue his baseball career. He was joined by his parents Bob and Kim Gibbons. Makinley Magill signed her letter of intent on May 3rd. She will be attending Muskingum University where she continue her softball career. She has not decided on a major just yet. Two weeks ago, the Wolverines were able to erase a six run deficit to defeat Avonworth, but on Saturday there would be no comeback as the Antelopes scored 14 consecutive runs to turn a 2-2 tie into a 16-4 rout. The Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Quaker Valley 5-1 on Saturday. Prior to the contest, the Ellwood City seniors were recognized with their parents as part of the Senior Day game. After a relatively quiet first five innings, Ellwood City scored four runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. ELLWOOD CITY SOFTBALL DEFEATS QUAKER VALLEY The Lincoln High School softball team improved their record to 9-2 on the season as they defeated Quaker Valley 18-2 Wednesday afternoon in Sewickley. The Wolverines posted 18 runs with only seven hits on the board. The Ellwood City Junior High softball team racked up two big wins this past week against Beaver Falls and Shenango. After defeating their cross town rival Riverside last week, the Wolverines continued on their winning ways to bring their season record to 6-1. Pitchers Schwarz and Bogacki each pitched quick games this week with the team only playing eight innings between two games. Aaron Falk powered the Riverside Panthers to a 6-2 victory over Ellwood City Friday afternoon. Falk drove in runs with a single in the first, a double in the second, and a home run in the fifth inning. The Ellwood City Junior High Softball Team improved their season record to 4-1 after a victory against their cross town rival Riverside on Monday night. In the month of April, the team has only suffered a 9-5 loss to Mohawk and is currently on a four game win streak. In their last game against Riverside, the Wolverines took care of business 10-1 with pitchers Emma Bogacki and Amber McQuiston leading the way.
