Wilmington Hockey Season Ends In PIHL Semifinals Loss

The Wilmington hockey team’s season came to an end with a 5-1 loss at the hands of top seeded Bishop Canevin in the PIHL Division 2 semi-finals at Robert Morris University Island Sports Center Thursday evening. Wilmington (#5 seed) earned the right to face the Crusaders in the semis with an upset win over 4-seeded a Carrick team last week [VIEW BOX SCORE]. Riverside Archery Team Headed to Nationals in Kentucky

Riverside Archery is Right on Target. The team has been at Riverside for four years now and recently attended the state competition where the high school team placed 6th. The next stop is Nationals in Louisville, KY. Panthers Set to Compete At PIAA Swimming Championships

The 2022 PIAA Swimming Championships are slated to begin this week at Kinney Natatorium located on the campus of Bucknell University. For the Riverside Panthers, winners of WPIAL Gold in the 200 and 400-yard Freestyle relay events among others earlier this month, they will look to showcase its talent at the championships that begin with Class 2A prelims Friday. Head coach Bill Valli is very excited and optimistic about the chances of the athletes to reach Saturday’s finals. The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II hosted Dan Bradley, Ellwood City Wolverines Football Team coach, at their Wednesday March 9, 2022 meeting. Coach Bradley spoke on his previous achievements as coach at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) and Ambridge. Wilmington Hockey Shuts Out Carrick, Advances to PIHL Semifinals

The Wilmington hockey team shutout Carrick 2-0 in a PIHL D2 quarterfinal playoff game at Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon. After a scoreless first period the Hounds got all the goals they would need in the second period with an unassisted goal by captain Drake Tomak (Ellwood) and a power play goal by Davis Phanco (Wilmington). The big story of the night was goaltender Dom Serafino (Wilmington) as the netminder stopped all 33 shots he faced including 16 in a 3rd period onslaught by the Cougars. ECASD Bocce Team to Compete in Regional Playoff

“Come on, Now” Who wouldn’t want to be on or support the Ellwood City Area School District’s Bocce Team? Since 2017, the team has been growing and succeeding. In fact, the team is headed to SRU today to compete for the regional playoff after taking 1st place and the gold medal in section playoffs. They defeated Shenango—last year’s gold medal team—12 to 3. Ellwood City Native Receives CoSIDA University Achievement Award

Ellwood City native Doug Tammaro has received the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) University Division Achievement Award. Tammaro, the Arizona State Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, has been recognized as the top Sports Information Director at the NCAA Division I level as a part of CoSIDA’s weeklong Special Awards announcement. The award is given annually to the associate or assistant director in the sports information field who have made outstanding contributions to the field of sports information. Riverside Swimming Collects WPIAL Relay Golds, Roth Sets WPIAL Record

The Riverside Boys Swimming team collected a WPIAL Gold in the 200 and 400-yard Freestyle relay events and set WPIAL records – both collectively and individually – along the way during the WPIAL Swimming Championships this past weekend at the University of Pittsburgh. The 200-yard Freestyle relay Gold was the program’s third consecutive crown. Riverside Swim Team Defends Section Title, Eyes WPIAL Championships

For a fourth consecutive year, the Riverside High School Swim Team has earned section championship bragging rights. The boys finished a perfect 8-0 in their Class-AA section with their latest victory against the Beaver Bobcats on February 17th The co-op swimming team consisting of Ellwood City and Riverside athletes will next look towards defending various titles at the WPIAL Championships later this week, Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th at Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
