Junior Ellie Kalantzis staked the team to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as she tripled into the right field corner and scored on a wild pitch. The girls track team split their meet, with a victory over Union, but were bested by rival Riverside. “It’s a great start to the season and having the win against the cross-town rivals who have long been known for success on the track simply adds to the celebration,” said head coach Nate Brown. Ellwood City’s Unified Bocce team earned a third place finish at the PIAA Interscholastic Unified Bocce State Championships last week in Hershey, PA.
