Panthers Shut Out New Brighton, Coach Oliastro Sets Historical Mark

Three Panther pitchers combined to shut out New Brighton 6-0 Wednesday afternoon, earning the team its second victory of the young season and head coach Dan Oliastro a historical mark – 656 career victories, most in WPIAL History.

After striking for the games first run in the fourth inning, Riverside slugger Bo Fornataro launched a homerun in the fifth inning to stake the host Panthers to a 2-0 advantage.

Riverside added four runs in the sixth inning.

Madden Boehm, Ashton Schlosser, and Fornataro all drove in runs in the pivotal inning.

Christian Lucarelli got the win for Riverside. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out seven. Hunter Garvin and Boehm entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Bobby Budacki took the loss for New Brighton. Budacki surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two-thirds of an inning, walking one. Budacki went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead New Brighton in hits.

For Coach Oliastro, the 54-year head coach has four State Titles and 5 WPIAL Championships to go along with his WPIAL record 656 (and counting) victories.

Riverside next travels to face its crosstown rival, Ellwood City, on Friday afternoon with a 4:30 p.m first pitch scheduled at Sanders Field in Ewing Park.
