Keller Qualifies For PIAA Championships, Wolverines Eye WPIAL Team Semifinals

Jordan Keller competed in the WPIAL Class 2A Golf Finals Wednesday at Sewickley Heights Country Club, qualifying for the PIAA Championships with a two-day total of 160 (+16), good enough for T-15 overall among the 38 golfers. Keller became just the 2nd Ellwood City golfer in the last 30 year to qualify for the PIAA Golf Championships in State College. Keller advanced to the championships after his performance last week. BC3 Seeks Fourth Consecutive WPCC Golf Crown This Week

The deepest roster he has had in two decades as Butler County Community College’s coach made it difficult, Bill Miller said, to select the six golfers who this week will contend for the program’s fourth conference championship in a row and 10th in the past 11 seasons. Western Beaver jumped on Riverside early, gaining an early 21-0 advantage as they held on to defeat the Panthers 21-10 Friday night at Riverside Memorial Stadium. Brandon Mayo scored two first half rushing touchdowns for the Golden Beavers (4-1 Overall) who remain unbeaten in MAC section play. The Panthers girls volleyball team earned a thrilling 5-set match victory over rival Ellwood City in a Riv-Ell Cup matchup Thursday evening at Riverside High School The Lady Panthers jumped out to a two set advantage before the visiting Wolverines rallied back to tie the match at two sets apiece. Riverside then earned the rivalry victory with a 15-12 victory in the fifth and deciding set. Keller Advances To WPIAL 2A Individual Championship

Ellwood City golf standout Jordan Keller has advanced to the 2nd round of the WPIAL Class 2A Boys Individual Championship. The junior finished with a 6-over round of 78 on Monday at the Par-72 Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport. Keller fired a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. He collected a birdie on the par-5 14th hole. Riverside’s Hunter Garvin (43-44, +15) and Ellwood City’s Nate Kennedy (43-46, +17) participated on Monday but each missed the cut. The Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 on Monday and with the victory have qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. The Lady Wolverines have now strung together five consecutive victories to rebound from an 0-3 start to its regular season. Quarterback Chris Smiley accounted for four touchdowns as Ellwood City defeated Freedom 43-3 on the road Friday night in MAC Section play. The victory moved the Wolverines to 4-0 on the season, their first 4-0 start since 1997. After allowing the games first points early in the opening quarter, the Wolverines scored seven unanswered times to race away from the Bulldogs. Three Local Golfers Qualify For WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championships

Three local golfers qualified for the WPIAL Golf Individual championships with their performances Monday at Tanglewood Golf Course. Juniors Nate Kennedy and Jordan Keller from Ellwood City both made the cut while Hunter Garvin from Riverside also earned a spot in the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championship set to be held on Monday at Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport.
