Keller Advances To WPIAL 2A Individual Championship

Ellwood City golf standout Jordan Keller has advanced to the 2nd round of the WPIAL Class 2A Boys Individual Championship. The junior finished with a 6-over round of 78 on Monday at the Par-72 Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport. Keller fired a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. He collected a birdie on the par-5 14th hole. Riverside’s Hunter Garvin (43-44, +15) and Ellwood City’s Nate Kennedy (43-46, +17) participated on Monday but each missed the cut. Wolverines Girls Tennis Wipe Out Beaver Falls 5-0, Qualify For WPIAL Team Playoffs

The Ellwood City girls tennis team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 on Monday and with the victory have qualified for the WPIAL playoffs. The Lady Wolverines have now strung together five consecutive victories to rebound from an 0-3 start to its regular season. On Monday, Kailyn Hamilton (6-2, 6-0), Tessa Folino (6-0,6-0) and Mia Meredith (6-1, 6-1) all earned straight set victories in singles play while the pairings of Olivia Parson & Meredith McCommons (6-0, 6-0) and Sophia Agnew & Kiley LeViere (7-5, 7-3) earned doubles victories for Ellwood City. Smiley, Wolverines Rout Freedom 43-3; Panthers Down New Brighton

Quarterback Chris Smiley accounted for four touchdowns as Ellwood City defeated Freedom 43-3 on the road Friday night in MAC Section play. The victory moved the Wolverines to 4-0 on the season, their first 4-0 start since 1997. After allowing the games first points early in the opening quarter, the Wolverines scored seven unanswered times to race away from the Bulldogs. Smiley scored on a pair of 7-yard runs in the first half to go along with two touchdown passes to lead the offensive charge. Three Local Golfers Qualify For WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championships

Three local golfers qualified for the WPIAL Golf Individual championships with their performances Monday at Tanglewood Golf Course. Juniors Nate Kennedy and Jordan Keller from Ellwood City both made the cut while Hunter Garvin from Riverside also earned a spot in the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championship set to be held on Monday at Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport. Kennedy (36-36, 72) shot even par to win Section Medalist honors. Keller (35-38, 73 +1) finished one shot back in his qualifying effort. Ellwood City Boxing Club Cleans Memorials and Monuments

Mayor Anthony J. Court and Jack Maine organized the Ellwood City Boxing Club to clean the Memorials and Monuments at the Ellwood City Borough Building on September 11, 2024. “This group of individuals who came forth and did an outstanding job of cleaning and honoring the Monuments,” said Mayor Court in an emailed statement. Wolverines Remain Unbeaten, Knock Off Mohawk 41-34

Elijah Palmer-McCane rushed for four touchdowns and Chris Smiley threw for two more as Ellwood City defeated Mohawk 41-34 Friday night at Helling Stadium. The Wolverines jumped out quickly, scoring first on a 49-yard touchdown toss from Smiley to Dom Hogue just minutes into the contest. Ellwood City stretched its lead to 14-0 when Palmer-McCane plunged in from two yards out with less than a minute remaining in the first frame. Covert, BC3 Men’s Golf Squad Seek To Repeat As Conference Champions

BUTER, PA — Lincoln High School grad Mitchell Covert and BC3 will begin pursuit of a fourth consecutive Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference men’s team title and a 10th under coach Bill Miller when it opens up its regular season against Westmoreland County Community College, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College and the host Community College of Allegheny County at North Park Golf Course.
