PHOTOS: Riverside Edges Ellwood 49-47 In Overtime

Riverside used a 17-point effort by Cole Becker to knock off rival Ellwood City 49-47 in overtime Tuesday evening. The Panthers led 27-18 at halftime before the visiting Wolverines narrowed the gap with a third quarter surge and held Riverside to only three fourth quarter points to force overtime. Becker scored four of Riversides nine points in overtime including the decisive last two points. Ellwood Area Family Center Holding Youth Basketball Sessions

The Ellwood Area Family Center will be hosting youth basketball sessions beginning next month. The basketball sessions will be held at the Ellwood Area Family Center on the North Side of Ellwood City on Thursday afternoons beginning on Thursday, January 8th. The clinic will run for five consecutive Thursdays and will be available for ages 8, 9, and 10-year-old children. Each weekly session will be one hour in length from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $45.00 per applicant and players are asked to bring their own ball. ECASD Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Honored Friday Night

On Friday evening, the newest class of ECASD Hall of Fame inductees were honored with a special dinner and recognition during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against the Freedom Bulldogs. This class includes six individuals and three athletic teams. Together, they make up the fourth class to be installed into the Hall of Fame. Meyer Leads Scoring Charge, Lady Panthers Improve To 3-1 On Season

Emma Meyer led the scoring charge for the Lady Panthers as the Riverside girls basketball team picked up two victories over the past week. Meyer knocked home three 3-pointers and scored a game high 24 points Monday night as the Lady Panthers rallied to knock off Sewickley Academy 50-46. Riverside trailed 36-34 entering the final quarter. Emma Stockton joined Meyer in double figures with 11 points and also hauled in 14 rebounds for a double-double. Wolverines/Panthers Basketball Games Cancelled Tuesday

A hot start by the Wolverines boys basketball team continued after picking up its third victory of the regular season Monday with a 67-64 victory over Laurel, but now winter weather has now forced cancellations of their game Tuesday. According to Lincoln High School, there will be no JV or Varsity basketball games Tuesday night. The originally scheduled game against Western Beaver has been cancelled. ROUNDBALL: Local Teams Tip Off Regular Season

The 1-2 punch of Kaleb Servick and Aaron Lake brought home two victories for the Wolverines boys basketball team and earned each MVP recognition in the Ellwood City Tip-Off Classic over the holiday weekend. The duo combined for 45 points on Friday as Ellwood City routed Rochester 81-39. Servick scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half and finished 10-12 shooting. Lake earned a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Servick led all scorers on Saturday with 24 points as the Wolverines defeated Union 51-31. Senior/Sophomore Team Wins Ellwood City Powerpuff Bowl 38-6

The Senior/Sophomore team defeated the Junior/Freshman team 38-6 in the Ellwood City Powerpuff Bowl held Friday evening at Helling Stadium. The Senior/Sophomore team used an impressive rushing attack and forced two turnover to win the annual flag football contest held among Lincoln High School female student body. Ava Trputec opened up the scoring with a 8-yard touchdown run for the Junior/Freshman team but the 6-0 advantage was short lived.
