Winter sports have arrived in Ellwood City. Hockey and Wrestling are among the popular sports for students at Lincoln High School. Mayor Court Presents Proclamation To EC Boys Golf Team

Mayor Anthony J. Court recently presented a proclamation to Ellwood City Boy’s Golf Team on their outstanding and heroic 2024 season. The mayor proclaimed Monday, December 16, 2024 as the ‘Ellwood City Boy’s Golf Team Day’ in the Borough. The team was undefeated Section Champions, earning its first undefeated season since 1975. Lady Panthers Best Rival Ellwood City 54-50

The Lady Panthers bested rival Ellwood City 54-50 Monday evening at Riverside High School. Camryn Friello connected on four 3-pointers, including two in a pivotal fourth quarter, en route to her game-high 16 points to lead Riverside. Riverside entered the final quarter trailing by two points, but used a six point cushion in the frame to come out ahead for the victory. Plassmeyer Pours In 25 To Lead Riverside; Wolverines Split With Hopewell

McCartney Plassmeyer poured in a game high 25 points Monday evening to lead Riverside to a 59-44 victory over Western Beaver. The 6’1′ junior guard connected on two 3-pointers and posted 14 first half points as the Panthers jumped out to a 28-22 halftime advantage. A decisive 16-7 third quarter spurt helped Riverside pull away for victory. Plassmeyer collected eight points in the final frame to help the Panthers secure the victory. Gabe Lilly Earns 1st Place Finish At Rick Link Invitational

Gabe Lilly started his wrestling season with an individual championship at the 25th annual Union Local Rick Link Invitational at Union Local High School in Ohio on Saturday. Lilly (165 pounds) defeated Jeston Showalte 10-6 in the semifinals who was the returning 3rd place state medalist as West Virginia state championships. In the finals Lilly defeated Brock Evans of Waynesburg High School 9-2 who is a returning WPIAL AAA State Qualifier from last season. Wampum Native Dick Allen Elected To National Baseball Hall of Fame

Wampum native Dick Allen, a seven-time All-Star and two-time home run champion, earned an election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday via the Classic Baseball Era Committee process. Dave Parker, a two-time batting champion and the owner of two World Series rings, will join Allen in the Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Allen and Parker were candidates on the Classic Baseball Era Committee Ballot, which was considered by a 16-member committee that held meetings today in Dallas. The Hall of Fame Committee of the Ellwood City Area School District is pleased to announce the incoming class of the Ellwood City Alumni Hall of Fame. This class includes five individuals and one athletic team. Together, they make up the third class to be installed into the Hall of Fame. Riverside Sweeps Tip-Off Tournament, Ellwood City Splits Two Games

The Thanksgiving holiday rings in the holiday season and points focus on a few things – Christmas, and high school basketball! The Riverside Panthers boys basketball team collected two victories in the Laurel Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend. Riverside knocked off Sharpsville 52-37 on Friday and then defeated Commodore Perry 63-31 on Saturday. In Friday’s victory, McCartney Plassmeyer and Logan Young each scored 17 points for Riverside. Zoning Board to Consider Exemption For Proposed Girls Softball Field

As Ewing Park residents continue to oppose a girls softball field at the Ewing Park School property, the school district will make a special exemption request to implement the facility to the zoning hearing board during a 10 a.m. meeting on Dec 4. The meeting will be held at the borough building. Current zoning allows for a park or playground but not a sports field.
