Hare, Panthers Defeat Wolverines at SRU To Even Season Series

After a series of weather induced rescheduled affairs, the Riverside Panthers and Ellwood City Wolverines found themselves at Jack Critchfield Park on the grounds of Slippery Rock University Friday evening for a WPIAL section tilt. The Panthers came away with a 9-5 victory behind Zach Hare to even the season series with the Wolverines. Ellwood City shutout Riverside earlier in the week. Lake, Wolverines Shutout Panthers

Aaron Lake struck out 10 batters in a complete game gem to lead the Ellwood City Wolverines past Riverside 4-0 on Tuesday at Beaver Falls High School. Lake surrendered just three hits and three walks in his performance that handed the Panthers their first loss of the season. Ellwood City was the first to get on the board in the top of first inning when Will Nardone singled, scoring one run. Zack Hare was dominant on the bump Thursday afternoon and at the plate Thursday in Riverside’s 4-1 victory over West Allegheny running the Panthers early season unbeaten record to 4-0. Hare rang up 11 strikeouts and surrendered only three hits, one walk, and one run over six and two-thirds innings. The righty also went 4-4 at the plate with an RBI. Ellwood City Improves To 3-0 With Victory Over West Allegheny

The Ellwood City Wolverines baseball team was victorious against West Allegheny 8-3 on Friday at Sanders Field to extend their early season unbeaten mark to 3-0. The Wolverines opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with three runs thanks in part to two doubles, including a two-run double by Will Nardone. Wolverines Use 6th Inning Surge To Oust Rival Riverside

The Ellwood City Wolverines softball team used a four run sixth inning to defeat Riverside 9-5 on Friday afternoon. The Lady Wolverines were the first to get on the board in the back-and-forth rivalry contest when Ayla Sterner induced Alexis Beck to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. Ellwood City Basketball Teams Eye PIAA Playoffs This Weekend

Ellwood City boys and girls basketball teams each qualified for the PIAA State Championships, but each will face a district champion in the PIAA 3A opening round this weekend. Riverside Panthers Finish 15th Overall In WPIAL Class 2A Swimming Championships

The Riverside Panthers boys swim team placed 15th Overall in the WPIAL Class 2A Swimming & Diving Championships that took place Thursday and Friday at Treas Pool on campus at the University of Pittsburgh. The Panthers relay team shined with a top-10 finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. The team qualified both the 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay for the PIAA state championships. Aaron Lake posted a double-double Monday evening to lead Ellwood City to a 60-57 victory over Southmoreland in WPIAL Consolation action. The victory advances the Wolverines (15-10 Overall) to the WPIAL Class 3A Fifth-Place game against Shady Side Academy on Wednesday. After suffering a 77-34 setback against #2 South Allegheny in the quarterfinals on Friday, the Wolverines rebounded for the road victory Monday. Lady Wolverines Upset Keystone Oaks, Move On To WPIAL Semifinals

Caitlin Kretizer and Delaney Sturgeon combined to score 11 points in the fourth quarter to spark the Lady Wolverines to a 40-37 comeback victory over #4 Keystone Oaks Wednesday night.
