Senior Karrington Ketterer scored 26 points in yesterday’s 49-34 win against New Castle on Senior Night. The Lady Wolverines have five seniors on the roster and all hold a special place to head coach Jolene Krupa and her sister, assistant coach Dena Noble. When the two started coaching, the Class of 2016 was in eighth grade, and Krupa and Noble have coached them up through the years. Nick Ioanilli Signs to Play Football at Colgate

Ellwood City senior Nick Ioanilli signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, Feb. 3 to play football at Colgate University, a Division I school in the NCAA’s Patriot League. Ioanilli was the Wolverine’s top rusher in the past two seasons. He is projected to play linebacker for the Colgate Raiders.    


Karrington Ketterer wins Lawrence County Basketball Scholarship

Ellwood City senior Karrington Ketterer was the recipient of the Lawrence County Girls Youth Basketball Scholarship. Yesterday, Ketterer set her career high of 26 points in Ellwood’s Senior Night game against New Castle. She is 13 points away from a varsity career of 1,000.

The Ellwood City wrestling team held its Senior Night on Feb. 3 and recognized two seniors, Christian Kerr and Carter MacMurdo. Although the wrestling team fell in the match to Armstrong 52-15, three Ellwood City athletes defeated opponents: Tyler Alberts, Donavan Chambers and Christian Kerr. Five of Armstrong’s wins were from forfeit. Ellwood Girls Basketball Thrashes Lincoln Park

Karrington Ketterer scored the game high of 14 points in yesterday’s away win against Lincoln Park. The Ellwood City girls basketball team maintained a steady lead through the first three quarters. Although Lincoln Park’s offense struck back in the final quarter, scoring 12-6, they didn’t overcome Ellwood’s lead, ending the game 42-32. In addition to Ketterer, Allie McKelvey and Emily Brown each scored seven points. Other scorers for Ellwood were Breonna Streit, six; Natalie Greco, four; Cortni Prine, three; and Isabella Roth, one.    


Six CCBC Student-Athletes Achieve WPCC All-Academic Honors

Monaca– Six Community College of Beaver County student-athletes earned a place on the Fall 2015 Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) All-Academic Team. Four women’s volleyball players and two men’s basketball players were regionally recognized for achieving honors or high honors in the classroom. To earn the honor award, student-athletes must achieve a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA. Weekly Basketball Recap: Ellwood City Girls Defeat Hopewell in Conference Game

The Ellwood City girls basketball team played two conference games this week, losing a close away game to Beaver 42-35 on Monday, Jan. 25 and defeating Hopewell 51-30 at a home game yesterday. In Monday’s game, the Lady Wolverines trailed Beaver 38-24 by the third quarter. However, a fierce counterattack in the final quarter gave Ellwood 11-4, closing the gap but not enough to even the score. For Ellwood, Breonna Streit and Karrington Ketterer led the offense with 11 points each. Nine of Streit’s points came from three-point shots. Riverside Wins Important Conference Game Against Neshannock

The Riverside girls basketball team is on a drive for the section title. Yesterday, there was one obstacle: Neshannock’s powerful team. However, the Lady Panthers thrashed Neshannock 55-34 in a home game, putting them a half-step ahead in their Class-AA section rankings. Although victory is often expected among a team with a 15-2 record, the girls went into the game knowing Neshannock would be tough competition. Back in December, Neshannock handed Riverside its first taste of defeat in a 51-39 game away game. Riverside Girls Win One, Lose Won Defeat isn’t something the Riverside Girl’s basketball team has experienced much this season. The team started with a seven-game winning streak briefly interrupted by Neshannock before going on an eight-game streak. The last game in that streak was against Laurel in a home conference game on Monday, when Riverside won 79-50. Ellwood City Athletic Director Proposes Reforms for Equipment Purchasing and Field Upgrades

At Monday’s agenda setting meeting, Athletic Director Darin Morella presented several major ideas to the Ellwood City Area School Board. Foremost, Morella, who was appointed AD this past summer, wished to reorganize the method with which the athletic department purchases equipment in order to cut down on wasted equipment, save money and have equipment arrive in a more timely fashion. His proposal is in cooperation with Richard Zarone, the district’s business manager. As it is currently done, all sports order their equipment at the same time, around May.
