Ellwood City School Board to Interview Candidates for Basketball Coaches

Boys and Girls Basketball Coaches The Ellwood City school board will interview two candidates each for the positions of boys and girls basketball head coaches. The positions were open since Jolene Krupa and James Kosior resigned in following the 2015-16 season. The positions may be filled at today’s meeting. Ellwood Boys and Girls Track Results from Laurel Meet

The Ellwood City boys and girls track teams lost to Laurel at a home meet on Tuesday. However, Ellwood athletes captured several first places. For the boys, distance runner Billy Lott won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs while participating in a winning 4×800 meter relay team. Nick Ioanilli claimed first in the 100 meter dash and long jump. Also taking first for Ellwood were Keyshawn Gatto in 400 meter run and River Kelly in the shot put throw. Baseball and Softball Recap: Ellwood, Riverside Gather Wins

The Riverside baseball team played and won two games last week. On April 5, the Panthers defeated Vincentian Academy 4-3 and got a 2-0 win against Shenango on Thursday. For the Shenango win, juniors Ricky Wass and Dylan Speicher earned runs in the first and third innings. Michael Boswell pitched a near-perfect game with 13 strikeouts and only two hits against. The Panthers are now 5-1 overall and 1-0 in their conference. They play an away game at Laurel today, weather permitting. Ellwood Boys Tennis Going for a Winning Record

For the first time in the past few seasons, the Ellwood City tennis team had a solid preseason to prepare. “Last year, some of the kids’ first time on the court was their first match,” head coach Keith Golebie said. “It’s hard to organize a team in those conditions.” Golebie, a tech teacher at Lincoln High School, has been coaching for five years. Close Game Ends in a Triumphant Comeback for Lady Wolverines

When the fourth inning started, the Ellwood City softball team was in a quagmire, down 5-2 where any gains could be shut down by more Laurel runs. However, the Lady Wolverines made a resounding comeback to win 8-6. Ellwood earned two runs in the fourth inning and from then on, kept Laurel at bay. The Lady Spartans only got one run in for the rest of the game while Ellwood picked up four more in the sixth and seventh inning. EC Junior High Softball Team Drops to 0-2 as Shaler Wins 10-0

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Shaler on Thursday afternoon and took one on the chin. Shaler put up 10 runs in just five innings as the game was halted by the mercy rule. Walks and untimely errors proved to be the young team’s undoing as Shaler managed just five hits. The Wolverines mustered just three hits themselves as Shaler’s defense was dazzling. The normally sure-handed defense committed an uncharacteristic three errors and Shaler also benefited from 13 walks. Ellwood City Track and Field Grabs Individual Wins in Double Meet

The Ellwood City boys and girls track and field started the season yesterday with a double meet versus Beaver and Rochester at home. Both the boys and girls teams defeated Rochester but lost to Beaver. The Ellwood girls dominated much of the field competition against both Beaver and Rochester, with Mia DeCaria winning the high and triple jumps, Goldie Bookamer winning the pole-vault, Karrington Ketterer winning javelin and Madison Morella winning the long jump.
