Ellwood Boys Tennis Team Win Boosts to .500 Record

The Lincoln High School Boy’s Tennis team improved their record to .500 in section play for the first time in recent memory, at 4-4, with a 5-0 win over Ambridge in their final section match of the season. The first doubles team of Senior Corey Hobbs and Sophomore Shane Reisinger remained undefeated in section play. Christian Mittica improved his section record to 6-2. There were several hard fought matches that stretched over three sets and could have gone either way, but the Ellwood boys held on to win. Softball/Baseball Recap: Lady Wolverines Remain Undefeated

The Ellwood City softball team continued its undefeated streak following two victories against Neshannock and Shenango. Following a 13-3 conference victory on Tuesday, April 26 versus Neshannock, the Lady Wolverines faced weather cancellations until playing Shenango on Saturday. Ellwood defeated Shenango 6-3. Although the Lady Wolverines got off to a 2-0 head start in the first inning, Shenango pulled ahead 3-2 by the fourth. EC Jr. High Battles North Hills, Falls 7-1

Last week, the Lady Wolverines were trounced 15-0 in three innings by the North Hills Indians. On Tuesday evening, the junior high ladies fought hard for seven innings before falling short by a final score of 7-1. This was the third straight game in which the young team has been competitive against a Class AAAA foe that had previously mercy ruled them. The Lincoln High School Boy’s Varsity Tennis team moved within one match of a .500 section record yesterday, improving their section record to 3-4 with a hard-fought win over Central Valley. Trey Houk won at second singles, and the first singles team of Corey Hobbs and Shane Reisinger maintained their undefeated section status at first doubles, both with straight set wins. Riverside Seniors Boehm and Boswell Sign Letters of Intent

Two Riverside High School seniors signed letters of intent on Thursday, April 21 for NCAA Division II colleges. Ashley Boehm will be attending Seton Hill University in Greensburg to play softball. She is the daughter of Kerry and Paul Boehm. Michael Boswell will be attending Tiffin University in Toleda, Ohio to play baseball. He is the son of Mike and Nancy Boswell.  


Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation to Celebrate Opening Day this Saturday

The Ellwood City Amateur Baseball Federation will celebrate the opening of the summer baseball season on Saturday, April 30 with a parade starting at 11 a.m. in Ewing Park. Events include a home run derby, dunk tank, carnival games, inflatables, prizes and trophies, a 50/50 raffles, a Chinese auction, and more. There will also be a Pitch, Hit & Run event open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14 beginning at 4 p..m. in Sanders Field in Ewing Park.

The Lady Wolverines put up a valiant effort Thursday evening but Shaler scored four runs in the top of the seventh to come away with a 10-3 victory. Softball/Baseball Weekly Wrap Up: Lady Wolverines Win Extended Game

The Ellwood girls softball team mercy-ruled New Brighton on Tuesday and outlasted Laurel in an extended 11-inning game on Thursday, continuing their undefeated streak. On Tuesday’s home game, Ellwood’s offense had a decisive first inning, with 14 runs. The game continued until the fourth inning, when the Lady Wolverine’s won by mercy rule 14-2. Ariana Garroway had the most RBI’s with four, and Natalie Greco earned three runs. In batting, Greco, Garroway and Skyla Greco each had two hits.
