Lady Wolverines Win Second Round of Playoffs in Bottom of the Seventh

For fives innings, neither Ellwood or Burgettstown could get a runner around the bases thanks to excellent pitching. Ultimately, Ellwood City defeated Burgettstown 2-1 yesterday in the second round of the playoffs. Burgettstown pitcher Katie Tarr pitched a near-perfect five innings, with an interruption that ended for Ellwood when Arianna Garroway was caught stealing home. Ellwood pitcher Skyla Greco outmatched Tarr with a no-hitter until the sixth when Burgettstown earned their first run. Riverside Baseball and Ellwood Softball Games Changed

The Riverside playoff baseball game at versus Keystone Oaks at Burkette Complex has been postponed to May 24. The team will be excused the same time tomorrow and the bus will leave the same time tomorrow. The Ellwood softball playoff game versus Burgettstown has been moved from West Allegheny to Sewickley Academy at 6 p.m.  


Fall Sports Physicals at Lincoln High

Ellwood City School District will be offering physicals for athletes participating in fall sports on June 8 and 22. Physicals are by appointment wit Dr. Lawrence Rahall in the Lincoln High School health office. Required forms are at the athletic director’s office or health office. Ellwood, Riverside Athletes Qualify for PIAA Track and Field Championships

Two Ellwood and nine Riverside athletes qualified for the PIAA track and field championships at Shippensburg University. Ellwood’s Taylor Petrak finished fourth in the 300 meter hurdles at the WPIAL track and field championships yesterday at Baldwin. The top five finishers advance to the PIAA. Billy Lott placed seventh in the 1600 meter run but his time of 4:26.57 automatically qualified him. Goldie Bookamer placed eighth in the pole vault, earning a medal. Lady Wolverines Defeat Neshannock for Third Time in First Round of Playoffs

Defeating a team three times is no easy feat, and the Ellwood City softball team had to do just that in the first round of playoffs. “It is always tough to play a team three times in one season, especially a team like Neshannock with the success they have had in the past,” head coach Gary Rozanski said. Riverside Mercy Rules Steel Valley in Second Round of Playoffs

In yet another mercy rule victory, the Riverside baseball team shut down Steel Valley 10-0 in the second round of the playoffs yesterday. On Tuesday, Riverside had done the same thing, with the same score, to New Brighton. Riverside earned 10 runs in the first four innings. After neither team scored in the fifth, the game ended via the mercy rule. Riverside Mercy Rules New Brighton in First Playoff Game

The Riverside baseball team had a fantastic start to the Class AA playoff season. In five innings, they mercy ruled New Brighton 10-0. A strong offense consistently got on base throughout the game. Austin Dambach and Cristian Cicchinelli each had two runs while Cicchinelli, Braden Bentel and Michael Boswell contributed three hits. Cicchinelli, Ricky Wass and Dylan Speicher each had two RBIs. Ellwood Softball and Riverside Baseball Playoff Games Announced

The Ellwood City softball team finished the regular season 16-0 overall and 12-0 in their conference. They are ranked #1 in the WPIAL Class AA. Their first playoff game is slated for Wednesday at Seneca Valley versus the winner of today’s Neshannock and Waynesburg game. The Riverside baseball team finished the regular season 16-2 overall and 9-1 in their Class AA conference. Their first playoff game is slated for Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Chippewa Park against New Brighton. Congratulations and good luck to both teams!


Junior High Softball Team Finishes Season with Four Consecutive Wins

For the second straight game, the Lady Wolverines won a game with a walk off hit. In Thursday night’s season finale, Sydni Haswell was the hero. She laced a line shot up the middle to score Taylor Covert and Maura Agostinelli as the team defeated Hampton in dramatic fashion by a score of 7-6. After a shaky defensive start that spotted Hampton a 6-1 lead after just two innings, the team regained their focus and outscored the Talbots 6-0 over the final five frames.
