Ellwood Prepares for Annual Light Up Night

A large evergreen can be spotted in Ellwood’s downtown community plaza patiently awaiting decoration in preparation for Ellwood City’s very own annual Light Up Night. The Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce hosts the Let There Be Lights weekend annually, typically consisting of an array of Christmas themed activities. This year Light Up Night will be Dec. 2 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. in the community plaza. November Regular Meeting Brief

There was plenty of discussion at Ellwood’s regular meeting last night: The Post family, owners of T&M Hardware, were invited to formally receive a commendation for 25 years of service, presented by council president Connie MacDonald. Dr. Nanjunda was also recognized for his performance as a local physician for 34 years. Aaron Bernstine publicly announced that his office is secured to be in the same location as the previous State Representatives’ office. Bernstine Actively Working Toward Keeping Promises

In just over a month, elected State Representative Aaron Bernstine, will be offically sworn into office; however, the time gap is not stopping him from actively working towards keeping the promises he made during his campaign. One of the most notable promises he made was that he would do everything in his power to cease the Borough’s usage of the electric utility as a taxation tool. Reminder to Drive Safely in Winter Weather

Over the weekend, we encountered the first snowfall of the season here in Ellwood with many more winter-wonderland days upcoming. Whether or not you’re a fan of the snow, it’s important to take extra precautions especially when driving in freezing weather, even if the roads appear fine. It does not have to be actively snowing or raining for road hazards to appear. As long as the temperature is low enough, ice and slush can form, causing extremely dangerous driving conditions. DEP Implements Vogel Legislation Suspending Costly Fuel Pump Regulation

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced today that effective November 12, 2016, it will no longer enforce the Stage II vapor recovery requirement for new or modified gasoline dispensing equipment. Senate Bill 1386, a measure introduced by Senator Elder Vogel Jr. and signed into law as Act 135 of 2012, eliminated the requirement that gas stations in the Pittsburgh region install Stage II vapor recovery systems on fuel pumps. Since 2000, all passenger cars and light trucks have been required to include onboard refueling emissions controls, rendering the costly Stage II vapor recovery systems on fuel pumps redundant….

$300 Fine For Failure to Comply With This Animal Ordinance

Although we have yet to witness a snowfall here in Ellwood for the season, it’s no doubt that we’ve already encountered some pretty chilly days. United Fund achieves 38% of goal of $50,000.00

The Ellwood City United Fund annual campaign began Oct 1, 2016 with a set goal of $50,000.00 for the coming year of 2017. A get acquainted mixer was held on Oct 18, 2016 that was enjoyed by over 60 guest and service organizations. Andy Kindle, treasurer said, “the first 45 days of the campaign the donations have reached up to over 38% of the goal, funds collected to date total $19,905.00.” “We still have 45 days to receive donations and we are hopeful that the community will respond this year and be generous to help our neighbors and  friends in need,”…

Blood Drive Host Thanks Community for Participation

Debbie Murdock, the mother of Richard Hogue -a 28 year old who was fatally shot a few years ago; wanted to formally thank all attendees to her annually hosted blood drive. “We had a great turnout and 57 lives were saved. Mayor Court and Joshua Lamancusa came to support Richard and also made a donation, and Dominoes Pizza donated pizza for the blood drive… We (Richard’s family) are very grateful for the support -keeping Richard’s memory alive by giving the gift of  life,” Murdock appreciated.
