Local Preschool Expands Offered Programs

Preschool is such a crucial learning opportunity for youth under five, that’s why it’s comforting to know one of the best and well organized early learning schools in the area is right here in Ellwood. Toys For Tots Benefit From BodyShop’s Kid Fit-Mas.

On December 4th, BodyShop Group Fitness held their Kid Fit-Mas event at their space in the Creekside Commons at 324 Wampum Ave. The event was attended by over 30 children from the ages of 1-10 years old. The owners of the fitness studio set up obstacle courses requiring the children to complete circuits of exercises including jumps, push-ups, crunches, hula hooping, running, and climbing. Activities scheduled for the next two holiday weeks include the following: Wednesday, December 21, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. CCBC Student Awarded First National Bank Culinary Arts Scholarship

Monaca, PA –Culinary arts student Brooke Karlheim is this year’s recipient of the First National Bank Culinary Arts scholarship. December Agenda Council Meeting Brief

Updated- 12/15/16– Few visitors were in attendance at Ellwood City’s December Council Meeting, and those who attended did not publicly speak. The main discussion matter was adopting a 2017 budget that, for a fourth consecutive year, includes a property tax increase. Finance Resolution- adopt 2017 Budget Ordinance- adopt 2017 tax rate, 8.75 mill Under finance, the ordinance to adopt the 2017 tax rate of 8.75 mill was discussed by council. Ellwood City Parade Committee Thanks Community for Participation

The Ellwood City Parade Committee would like to thank everyone who participated, attended, and helped make this year’s Halloween and Christmas parades a success. The parades were funded by the following donors: Ellwood City Wolves Club, Ellwood City Lions Club, Courtyard Catering, Beth Hazen, Ellwood City Elementary PTO, Municipal Woman’s Club, Corona D’Italia Lodge, R. Local Recreation Projects Receive over $1 Million in State Grants

Seven recreation projects were recently awarded Community Conservation Partnership Program (C2P2) grants totaling over $1 million according to Senator Elder Vogel Jr. (R-47). The C2P2 program is administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and includes the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93), which includes Key – Community and Key – Land Trust; the Environmental Stewardship Fund (ESF); the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF); Pennsylvania Recreational Trails fund (PRT – federal source); Pennsylvania Heritage Area Program (HA) and; the Snowmobile /ATV (SATV). BREAKING: Ellwood City Man Shot by Police

This morning, I-376, one of the most commonly traveled routes in the area, was closed while helicopters and police were investigating an incident. Shawn Hobel, 34, of Ellwood City was shot by police officials and is undergoing surgery after leading several Lawrence County police departments on a chase. According to reports, the chase started around 3:30a.m., when Hobel -who had a woman passenger in the car- did not stop for Shenango Township officers attempting to pull him over for a traffic violation. Criminal Complaints: Man Faces Felony Charges After Assault

After an incident occurred last month, Zachary Franklin Pounds, 20, of Fox Street is facing felony charges. Pounds and his older brother, Joseph, caused a disturbance at Weisz’s Hazel Manor, resulting in a man needing to be life flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. The two brothers were ordering food when Zachary walked up to a man and started yelling profound racial slurs, punching the man and striking him over the head with a beer bottle, the victim was knocked on the ground.
