Relay For Life Event Leadership Meeting Wednesday, February 15, 2017 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. It is time again to start planning for the 2017 Ellwood City Relay For Life event.  Our members have been busy working on new ideas for more community involvement, come out and give us your ideas!  We meet at the Wellness Center next to Ewing Park Bridge at 6 pm, don’t shy away because of the meeting length or because you don’t  want to be committed to long term involvement in Relay.  Give us what time you have and be included in how this event comes…

Many local residents have mixed feelings about the almost-famous Punxsatawney Phil’s New Year prediction of six more weeks of winter. Although on average, sunnier winter days, which are more likely to cast the groundhogs shadow, are usually correlated with chillier and dryer weather – the old tradition which started in 1887 is not as accurate as it is fun. Last year Phil did not see his shadow, meaning that spring should have arrived early, however, it really didn’t arrive any earlier than normal. Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: Wednesday, February 8, at 10:00 a.m. — “Coloring for Adults,” a weekly program that is free and open to the public. “Coloring for Adults” is a new concept in helping to reduce the stresses of everyday life. Everyone is welcome, so call the library at 724-758-6458 for more information. Thursday, February 7, at 3:00 p.m. – “Hooked on Books,” a book discussion group designed for students in 6th through 8th grades. The group will discuss the book, “Renegade,” by Mike Bloemer. The Ellwood City Arts Club has been dedicated to enhancing and recognizing the artists in Ellwood City and now they plan on producing a community coloring book. The coloring book will consist of pen and ink drawings submitted by local talent. Because cost to print the coloring book is high, the ECAC will be hosting an April Fool Fashion Show and Tea. The club will then pay balance to print the book. The cost of buying a coloring book has not been priced yet. Not sure what to get your valentine for Valentines Day? Luckily, Ellwood City Hospital is hosting a Hockman Candy Sale right in time for the romantic holiday. An assortment of appropriately themed candies and chocolate can be obtained from Hockman Candy, Friday, Feb. 3 from 7a.m. – 3p.m. in the Ellwood City Hospital back dining room.
