Corona D’Italia Lodge February Meeting Brief

Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their monthly meeting at Pizza Joe’s on Wednesday, February 14th. All in attendance participated in the Valentine lunch served by Purdue LaCava, Lois DiFrischia and Margaret Cancelli. President, Clemmy Sirimarco extended the welcome with Valentine greetings to all. Trustee, Patricia Regna presented a prayerful invocation for all living and deceased members, families and all military personnel. Orator, Valerie Valentineo, presented heart shaped Valentine boxes ofcandy to each member. Trustee, Difrischia, distributed Valentine bags containing cookes made and donated by Carol Gibbons. The following is a brief synopsis of the Ellwood City Area School District board meeting held on Thursday, March 8: The meeting started with a moment of silence for Lincoln High School student Keaira Cunningham, who passed away on Feb. 14. Revenue/Finance The 2018-19 General Fund budget meetings were set for 6 p.m. on the following dates: Wednesday, April 18, Tuesday, April 24 and Monday, May 7. A motion was passed to discard old Jr. High Cheerleader uniforms that are not in use. Ellwood School Board Names Barb Wilson to Chair Security Committee and Hires Security Firm

At its regular meeting on Thursday, March 8, the Ellwood City School Board appointed board member Barb Wilson as chairwoman of an ad hoc security committee and arranged for a security firm to provide an assessment of the district’s four buildings. The committee is a response to the Florida school shooting on Feb. 14 and follows visitor concerns expressed at the agenda meeting on March 6. Carnegie Free Library Presents: Uncomfortable Conversations – Human Trafficking

Ellwood City Community Easter Egg Hunt Seeking Donations

The Ellwood Area Egg Hunt Committee is in need of donations to help make their 23rd annual community Easter Egg hunt a success. This year, the 23rd Annual Community Easter Egg hunt will take place Saturday, March 24th in Ewing Park for ALL area children ages 10 and under.  The events start at 11:00 and also at this time the 4 & under hunts will start, followed at 12:00pm with all other hunts beginning. Visitors Request Security Improvements for Ellwood School District

The Ellwood City School Board agreed to examine forming a safety committee following visitor concerns during its agenda meeting on Monday. In the wake of last month’s Florida school shooting, several Ellwood school district residents bonded together to address safety issues with the board. Chief among concerns were improving internal security, entrance to the school buildings as well as individual classrooms, and reducing bullying. Visitors also requested the district to implement a safety committee, as Riverside School District has done. Ellwood City Kindergarten Registration Announced

Ms. Christine Gibson, Principal of North Side Primary School, announces that Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-19 school year in the Ellwood City Area School District will be conducted on March 20, 21, 22, 2018 at the North Side Primary School. As part of the registration process, forms soliciting names of eligible kindergarten children have been sent home with elementary students. To be eligible for Kindergarten in 2018, children must be five years old prior to August 15, 2018.
