VIDEO: Parents Concerned Over Rochester Security Issue

Parents of children attending the Rochester Area School District were shocked to receive a “security issue” letter yesterday from the school district’s superintendent, Jane Bovalino. The letter reads: “Dear Parents of the Rochester Area School District: This morning an incident occurred at security as our elementary students were entering the building. Our security officers notified the administration of their concerns and the individual was escorted from the building. The January 8, 2018, Ellwood City Area Historical Society meeting held at the National Grind Coffee Shop was opened with Everett Bleakney welcoming everyone and explaining the mission of the Historical Society which is to protect, promote and preserve the Ellwood City area History and to make it accessible to the people of Ellwood City. Temperatures to Rise, Fall

This week has been much warmer than last, and by Saturday we should be seeing temperatures into the 50’s. Unfortunately the mild temperatures will not last; according to the Weather Channel, Friday will see a high of 51 degrees, Saturday back down to a high of 21, and Sunday with a high of 18. River of the Year: Connoquenessing Named Runner-Up

The public has been on the edge of their seats waiting for the results of the River of the Year contest, which were finally announced this week. United Fund Well Short of Fundraising Goal

ELLWOOD CITY — The Ellwood City United Fund has entered its final month of fundraising, fundraising chairman Chip Campbell fears that this years goal may go unmet. The local United Fund organization has been collecting donations since October 2017 with the money raised benefiting and supporting the efforts of the eight (8) agencies that serve the Ellwood City area and beyond. Though donations are being accepted until January 31, 2018, as of now, the organization is looking to come up $9,224.00 short of its goal of $ 50,000.00. NOTICE: Portion of 6th Street Closed

A small portion of 6th Street, in between Crescent and Lawrence Avenue, has been completely closed off until further notice due to a water leak. The water company is currently at the scene trying to fix the problem – which has left some residents without water. There is no time estimate that has been given when the water will be working again for those residents nor when the road will be back open.

Bernstine Bill Would Stop Life Insurance Payouts to Terrorists

HARRISBURG – A recent terror attack on police at the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex prompted state Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) today to unveil new legislation, which would limit life insurance payouts of individuals who die committing acts of terrorism. The proposal also calls for a portion of the terrorist’s life insurance benefits to be redirected to victims. “I don’t believe you deserve to keep your life insurance benefits if you intentionally steal the lives of innocent Americans,” Bernstine said. “We shouldn’t allow terrorism to be rewarded.” House Bill 1996 would allow insurance companies to limit payouts to beneficiaries named on…
