Be A Superhero Relay For Life -Saturday, June 2, 2018, 1:00 – 10:00 P.M. Public is welcome to join us in downtown Ellwood City at 1:00 p.m. for our opening ceremony, survivor (who are our superheros) and team laps.  Teams will start fundraising; walkers can circle the sidewalk from 5th to 6th streets on Lawrence Avenue follow the track shoe footprints, the kids zone will open along with many food and craft vendors.  Chalk The Town sidewalk art contest will be from 2 pm until 6:30 pm between the municipal building and Grandpaws, registration starts at 1 pm.  Entertainment includes;…


Riverside Varsity Will Advance to Next Round of WPIAL Playoffs

With a hard fought 3 to 1 victory, Riverside Baseball Team will advanced to the next round of the WPIAL Playoffs. Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Monday, but Riverside Panthers Varsity defeated Steel Valley 3-1. Riverside  pitchers allowed just three hits to Steel Valley. Riverside got things started in the second inning. Ethan Ziegler’s sac fly scored one run for Riverside Riverside Panthers Varsity. Gunnar Boehm was the winning pitcher for Riverside. Ellwood City Lions Club “Follow My Leader Essay Contest”

The Ellwood City Lions Club is pleased to announce the winners of its 5th annual “Follow My Leader Essay Contest.” The contest gave all fifth graders at Hartman Elementary School a chance to read the book Follow My Leader by James B. Garfield. In the book, 11-year-old Jimmy Carter is forced to learn a whole new way of life after he is accidentally blinded by a firecracker. Jimmy is paired with, and trained to use, a guide dog named Leader. The book shows how the boy’s accident and resulting blindness impacts the lives of Jimmy, his family and his friends….

Man Charged with Throwing Items at Occupied Vehicles

WAYNE TOWNSHIP — Police have identified James John McDonald, 43, of 1052 Main St., Wampum, as a suspect. McDonald threw an iced tea bottle at an unmarked state police cruiser. There have been many reports made to local police about suspects throwing items at other cars while driving down the road. In an Ellwood City Police report, a man reported he was driving down the road when the car in front of him threw an object at his windshield, causing damage to the vehicle. BC3 and CCBC Come Together To Offer New Entrepreneurship Program to Ellwood City Area High Schools

On Thursday, May 17, officials from Butler County Community College, Community College of Beaver County, Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln and Riverside high schools had an announcing ceremony to kick off the RIV-ELL Entrepreneurship Program. The RIV-ELL Entrepreneurship Program is an enterprising partnership program between businesses, schools, colleges, service clubs and foundations in Ellwood City. Ten Lincoln and Riverside high school seniors this fall will be the first to capitalize on the new program. Beaver Lawrence Railway Historical Society Presents: The Train Day Festival

Beaver Lawrence Railway Historical Society is holding its semi-annual Train Day Festival at West Pittsburgh Train Station Saturday, May 19, from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission to the event is free and all proceeds from the event fund the train station restoration. Elderly Ellwood City Woman Beaten and Robbed, Man Offers Reward to Help Catch Suspect

An Ellwood City man is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in his elderly aunt’s beating earlier this year in Lawrence County. Paul Boots found his great aunt, Delida Vicarri, 84,  one early morning last February in terrible shape on the back porch of her Ellwood City home. Vicarri was assaulted and robbed. Initially though, police investigating the case and Vicarri’s family thought that she had taken a bad fall. Her injuries were serious. Boots told media his aunt suffered a broken jaw, broken eye socket, she was kicked in her ribs and her legs were bruised….
