It’s that time of the year again, EllwoodCity.org is having our annual Halloween Costume Contest. Submissions begin on October 29, and go on through end-of-business hours on Friday, November 2. Ellwood City Medical Center Communal Events

Tonight for Ellwoods Trick or Treating, the Ellwood Cit Medical Center will be handing out treats from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be treats located near the main entrance driveway. In other news, the Medical Center will be hosting a Meals On Wheels jewelry sale fundraiser. The fundraiser will be Thursday, November 8 from 8:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m., and on Friday, November 9 from 8:00 am.m and 3:00 p.m. All jewelry will be sold for $6.00 a piece, and there will also be designer inspired handbags, electronics, and more sold. Penn State Cooperative Extension Offers ServSafe Food Safety Certification

NEW CASTLE, PA – According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, licensed food establishments must have all persons in charge successfully complete a food safety training class. Completing the necessary training and passing the associated exam brings licensed food establishments into compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) Food Employee Certification Act. To help food establishments meet this requirement, Penn State Extension is offering a Food Safety Training Course. The course will be held at the New Castle Public Library, located at 207 E. Ellwood City tax collector, Maryann Portugallo will be in her office at 525 Lawrence Avenue on Wednesday and will be available from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. During the month of November, she will be available on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Starting Tuesday, December 4,  Portugallo will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. For more information, call 724-758-9673.


Library Activities For the Week Of October 29

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities.  Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Man Arrested Near Portersville Trafficking $2.5M of Meth and Cocaine

PITTSBURGH – A West Virginia man has been arrested and charged in federal court in Pittsburgh with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine after his arrest near Portersville, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced Thursday. The criminal complaint, filed on October 22, charges Durell Anthony Jones, 33, of Fairmont, West Virginia, with drug conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Gaming Control Board To Hold Public Input Hearing For Mount Airy Casino

HARRISBURG, PA: The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced Thursday that it will hold a public input hearing on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in the social room of the Big Beaver Borough Fire Station #14 to collect testimony on the Category 4 casino application submitted by Mount Airy #1, LLC. Corona D’Italia Lodge #807 held their Columbus Day Dinner on Tuesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. The dinner was held at the Wolverine Restaurant. Man Charged With Burglary, Trespassing & Threats In Wayne Township

On Friday, October 12, just after 10:00 p.m, state police were called to a house on Guy Way, Wayne Township with reports of a white male breaking into a females home. The witness that called in stated he was throwing a party with a group of his friends when he noticed the male entering his neighbors home.
