Historical Society Fall Meeting A Success – Rain And All

Everyone was welcomed to the first Fall meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society.  Approximately 70 people attended the dinner which, because of the weather, was moved from Ewing Park to Calvin Presbyterian Church.  Following the invocation by Charles Brown everyone enjoyed a “picnic” dinner prepared by Nico’s Restaurant. Following dinner, a short business meeting was held.  Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as written. 2018 Riverside Homecoming Court Announced

Congratulations to the 2018 Riverside Homecoming Court!  The court had been announced at the end of last month with the names of Natalie Holzer, Lauren Bettencourt, Natalie Bologna, Sarina Steigerwald, Baylee Phillips, and Megan Rosendale. Tickets for the game will be available at Riverside during the morning on Friday. The Riverside Homecoming game will be played on Friday against Mohawk at home, with the game starting at 7:00 p.m. Before kickoff there will be an introduction of the Homecoming Court, which will be followed by the crowning of the queen at half time. POLICE: Four Cars Damaged At Local Auto Dealership

Four Cars Damage At Local Auto Dealership: On Monday September 24 at 1:07 p.m, Napleton Automotive manager Ray Reale called Ellwood City Police with a report that four of the cars in the Napelton lot had been damaged sometime between 8:00 p.m on Saturday September 23 and 12:00 p.m on Monday September 24. The cars appear to have been keyed on the front bumper or on the hood of the cars. Borough Announces Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Borough of Ellwood City announced last week details of their annual Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for borough residents.  The program will begin on Thursday, November 1, 2018 and end the first of April 2019. Individuals receiving assistance last year will be getting information from LIHEAP in the mail. First time persons seeking assistance can pickup applications at Holy Redeemer Social Services on Bridge Street in Ellwood City or the Welfare Office in New Castle. Ellwood City Library Activities For Week of October 1st

The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include: MONDAY, OCTOBER 1 THROUGH SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6 – The Library’s Annual Book Sale will take place. Hours are 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Friday; and 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monday will also feature a bake sale. Large crowds, food and crafts vendors, classic cars, entertainment and beautiful, fall weather all welcomed those in attendance Saturday at the annual Ellwood City Fall Fest & Car Cruise. The festival which began at 11:00am and lasted until 5:00pm on Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City was sponsored by McElwain Motor Car Company, Pittsburgh International Race Complex, Visit Lawrence County, WesBanco, HealthSouth Sewickley, Ellwood City Forge, and Nalco. Kids Created Kingdom 20th Anniversary Celebration

Twenty years ago, it took 5 days for an empty space in Ewing Park to become a 15,000 square foot playground. Within those 20 years, the playground has undergone many changes and become a cornerstone of Ewing Park. Most recently and earlier this summer, the Kids Created Kingdom added a wheelchair accessible swing to the list of features in the playground for use. Penn State Extension Lawrence County Holds 2018 Ag Encounter

Penn State Extension Lawrence County is hosting its annual Ag Encounter on Tuesday, October 2 and Wednesday, October 3 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds. Approximately 800 fourth grade students from the public and private schools in Lawrence County will participate. They will rotate through twelve stations where educators will teach them about local agriculture and livestock. Students will learn about agriculture in Lawrence County, its place as the leading industry in the county and the various steps get the food from the farm to their table. Beneigh Insurance Opens New Ellwood Location

Beneigh Insurance has made its way into downtown Ellwood City this summer, taking over the old Wilson Insurance building, located on Sixth Street, in July.
