VIDEO: Ellwood City Hospital Update

A KDKA-TV news van was parked just outside the Ellwood City Medical Center entrance this morning, with video equipment staging what could be another news update on the status of what has become regional news this week. Multiple Pittsburgh-based media sources have reported on the small, financially struggling western Pennsylvania hospital that has delayed paying its workers and now the works may find themselves without health insurance. According to KDKA report, United Healthcare has stated it is cancelling the hospital’s health insurance, at least temporarily, because of unpaid bills. Monday Night Cornhole League Set To Begin in January

The Western Pennsylvania Cornhole Association will begin a Monday night Cornhole League. For the next 10 weeks, players of all skill levels are invited to the Chewton Polish Club where at 7:00 p.m. players will participate in a blind draw for their partners and proceed to participate in the tournament. Due to the tournament being held in a club, participants must be 21 and older. Relay For Life Hosting “Super Bingo”

There will be a “Super Bingo” held at the Moose on Sunday, January 20th to raise money for the Ellwood City Relay For Life. BC3 At Lawrence Crossing To Host Program Orientation

(New Castle, PA) Butler County Community College has announced that BC3 at Lawrence Crossing will host an orientation on January 8 for students seeking to enroll in a free, month long basic health care employment skills certificate program. This program will begin February 12 and will train participants for entry-level positions. The 82-hour noncredit program will also be held at BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing, 2849 W. The Ellwood City United Fund board of directors will extend the annual fundraising campaign to January 31, 2019. “We feel and hope this will give the community extra time to respond for our plea of funds,” said United Fund Treasurer Andrew Kindle via email. Ellwood City & Beaver County Tree Disposal Information

With the Christmas season winding down, the once lively trees that brought joy and light up our homes are dying and needles are rapidly covering homes. From now until January 31, 2019, borough residents can drop these dying trees off at Stiefel Park. Due to the construction of the new public works building, the Christmas Tree drop off location has changed to the Women’s Softball (upper field) Field parking lot at Stiefel Park. Cioffi Awarded Commendation For Service To Community

On Monday, former borough manager Joe Cioffi was honored with a plaque as a commendation for his 60 years of service to the community by Mayor Anthony Court. Cioffi, 81, had been serving as a temporary interim manager while the borough looked to find applicants after it was decided by council not to renew the former manager’s, Robert Villella earlier this year. During his years serving the community Cioffi held positions as a teacher, administrator and a School Board  member. He was a baseball and basketball coach, church lector, Director of Parks and Recreation and served as Borough Manager for Ellwood…
