“Dog Gone” Bar & Restaurant Grand Opening

On Friday, March 15, Ellwood City Mayor, Borough Council Members, and an Ellwood Chamber representative attended the Grand Opening for the newest Ellwood City business, “Dog Gone” Bar and Restaurant. Dog Gone, located at 225 1st Street, features an outstanding menu that includes lamb chops and fish sandwiches as well as meatball sandwiches.  The owner Tim O’Brien and Mayor Court have been longtime friends and Court expressed how proud he is of both O’Brien and Hiler and wishes them both luck and success on this new adventure. Visitor Commentary Sparks Debate Over Field Usage

Ewing Park baseball field usage came into question last night during Ellwood City Area School District’s Board meeting. During visitor comments, Bill Garroway, coach of the Jr. High girls softball team and assistant coach of the girl’s varsity softball team requested the board consider the usage of Freidhoff Field in Ewing Park for the girl’s games. “First class softball teams deserve the use of a first-class field,” Garroway said. Toxic Trash Disposal Day Announced For Franklin & Marion Townships

Residents living in the Franklin and Marion Townships will be able to drop off their household hazardous and electronic waste “the right way” on Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Those who wish to participate can drop their items off at the Franklin Township Municipal Building. Registration is required for this event, so visit the ECSR website or call 866-815-0016.  50 registrants are required for the event to take place. Items to bring are household chemicals including paint, paint thinner, cleaning products, pesticides, car & household batteries, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, pool chemicals, oil, anti-freeze, flammables, etc….

Borough Of Ellwood City Announces Utility Account Budget Plan

The Ellwood City Borough Council adopted Resolution #2004-4 which approves a budget payment plan for utility accounts. These accounts, however, have to be under certain provisions. Provision one states that customers may complete the application form provided by the Borough during the annual open enrollment period. This period is from the third Monday in March through the third Friday in April. Following, the second provision mentions that the first budget-billing amount will appear on the May utility bill. The maximum budget period will be 12 months with all balances due to be settled in the 12th month. These budget amounts…

Potential New Drug Testing Policy At Riverside

On Monday, the Riverside community gathered in the Riverside High School cafeteria for an Informational Night for parents. The topic of discussion was Riverside’s possible new Drug Testing Policy. Parents with children in all grades came out to give their opinion on the subject at matter, and while some seemed to support it, the rest had more questions rather than support. The policy would target Riverside students in grades 7 through 12. Specifically, it would be aimed at students who drive and or participate in Riverside sports, however, students in the band would not be subject to these tests. According…

Senator Vogel Proposes Farmer “Legacy” Tax Credit

With the “graying” of Pennsylvania’s farm families, Senator Elder Vogel is preparing to introduce legislation that will encourage existing farmers and landowners to work with beginning farmers to help them get started. “My legislation provides a personal income tax credit for landowners who lease or sell their land, buildings, and equipment to beginning farmers,” said Senator Vogel, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee and operates a family farm in Beaver County that was established in the late 1800s. “The number one concern faced by new farmers is finding affordable farmland.
