Ellwood City Man Admits He Trafficked Cocaine

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced on Monday. Jeffrey Vitale, 29, of Ellwood City pleaded guilty to one count before Senior United States District Judge Arthur J. Schwab. In connection with the guilty plea, the court was advised that on or about February 16, 2018, Vitale distributed and possessed with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance. Ellwood City Native Hosting Prize Bash Benefit Luncheon

There will be a Prize Bash Luncheon held at the Ellwood City Saxon Club on Saturday, April 27 starting at 1:00 p.m. This luncheon will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. All proceeds will go towards Kelly Coccia’s LLS Pittsburgh Women Of The Year campaign. The Ellwood City native, Coccia, will be hosting this event as one of her fundraising events. The cost is a $15 donation which will get you lunch and 20 tickets to put towards the Chinese Auction that will be going on during the luncheon. Extra tickets will be offered at 10 tickets for $5. The Stonecrest Golf League’s annual reorganizational meeting will be held on March 26 at the Stonecrest Clubhouse, 2298 Route 18 at 6:00 p.m. At this meeting, current members, and anyone interested in joining are encouraged to attend. The Penn State Master Gardeners of Lawrence County are holding their spring symposium on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, 135 Decker Drive in New Castle from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Join Denise Schreiber, also known as “Mrs. Know it All” as she shares her knowledge of edible flowers. PHOTOS: New Public Works Building Construction Progress

As of their recent February meeting, the Borough of Ellwood City’s new public works building now has 100% all of its roofing work completed as well as 100% of the masonry work completed, according to Dan Franus, of Franus Architectural Associates, the architect behind the new 26,000 square-foot building behind constructed behind CVS Pharmacy. The fascia work is also 100% complete. Their overhead door installation is currently at 90%; all doors are installed, they are just working on the motorization of them. The Ellwood City Area Public Library offers a variety of weekly activities. Information is available by calling the library at 724-758-6458. Activities taking place this week include TUESDAY, MARCH 5 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. – “Family Laptime,” designed for babies as young as 6 months of age, toddlers, and preschoolers. POLICE: Social Security Telephone Scam Reported

The Ellwood City Police Department is warning residents against a scam in which a caller is looking to gain Social Security numbers and money. Residents said a person pretending to be an employee of the Social Security Administration — and whose phone number sometimes appears on caller ID as a legitimate number for the agency — has been contacting residents. Several versions of the scam, the phony caller tells the resident that their Social Security number has been linked to a crime (often, they says it happened in Texas) involving drugs or sending money out of the country illegally.
