Wolverine Varsity Recaps: Baseball Victorious, Softball Falls

VARSITY BASEBALL DEFEATS NEW BRIGHTON Ellwood City Wolverines stole the lead late in the game in an 8-5 victory over New Brighton on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the sixth when Jeramie Hill induced Brady Welsh to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. New Brighton scored three runs in the first inning, but Ellwood City Wolverines still managed to pull out the victory. Open House for the Child Advocacy Center

Mayor Anthony Court and Lt. David Kingston of the Ellwood City Police Department presented the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lawrence County, a Commendation at the LCCAC “Open House” held yesterday as part of their “Great Childhood Campaign” kickoff. On hand for a question and answer session were various advocates for LCCAC including a Trauma Therapist, Forensic Interviewer, and the Board Chair. The LCCAC sponsored the open house from 2p-6p yesterday. POLICE REPORTS: Bar Fights And Assaults

Bar Side Assualt. Michael Johnson was just spending his Thursday night playing pool at the Breakers Bar in Ellport on Thursday, March 28, when Mark Beachum Jr. came in and caused a little ruckus. According to a police report, Johnson was leaving when Beachum attacked him. The force of Beachum’s attack brought Johnson to the ground as he sustained injuries to his head and body, luckily none of which were too serious. Governor Wolf Appoints Council President to Advisory Committee

Ellwood City Council President Judith Dici was recently appointed to Governor Wolf’s Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC). The Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC) provides municipalities, legislators and the business community an opportunity to have an open dialogue to discuss the impact legislation is having on local governments as well as creates a forum to communicate and converse about the needs and challenges facing local governments throughout Pennsylvania. Lawrence County’s Earth Day Scheduled for April 20

The annual Lawrence County Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 20th at Ewing Park from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be vendors, exhibits, food provided by INMETCO, musical entertainment, free horse and trolley rides. Bernstine Announces ‘Coffee with Aaron’ Spring Town Hall Series

ELLWOOD CITY – Continuing his efforts to stay in touch with the people who hired him to be their voice in Harrisburg, state Rep. Pension Forfeiture Measure Sent to Governor

Legislation ensuring that public employees who commit job-related felonies are stripped of their taxpayer-funded pensions received final legislative approval in the Senate on March 20 and was sent to the Governor’s desk for enactment into law, according to Senator Elder Vogel. Currently, the Public Employee Pension Forfeiture Act requires pension forfeiture only for certain specific crimes. This allows public employees charged with a forfeiture crime to plead guilty to a different non-forfeiture crime in order to avoid losing their pension.
