Ellwood City Public Library To Open By Appointment

The Ellwood City Area Public Library will be open by appointment only starting Tuesday September 29, 2020. Call the library to set up an appointment to browse for books or use a computer. Anything printed must be paid for with exact change or check. We will not be making copies at this time. Newspapers and magazines will not be available. Limitations for patrons are 10 books and three, either books on CD or DVD’s, per person. It is mandatory that everyone wear a mask at all times when entering the building. New Castle, PA) A Lawrence County native who earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership will help emerging workplace leaders in Lawrence and Mercer counties to develop supervisory skills through a Butler County Community College certificate program that begins in October and will be held for the first time in at least five years at BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing. Yellow Ribbon Girls Need Your Help: Adopt A Soldier

40,000 boxes. That’s how many shipments have been sent by locally organized Yellow Ribbon Girls. Yellow Ribbon Girls is made up of hundreds of volunteers that work tirelessly all year round to provide our troops with the comforts, treats, and reminders of home. This year, they need your help more than ever. Because of Coronavirus restrictions, nearly all of the group’s fundraisers have been canceled or postponed. The group sent 300 Christmas Care Packages last year. Their hope this year is to send between 150 and 200 packages. The annual Ellwood City Halloween Parade was cancelled per a social media posting this week by the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce and its Ellwood City Parades account. According to the post, “We are sorry to announce that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Halloween Parade has been CANCELLED. This decision was not an easy one however our continued concern for the health and well-being of the community is our number one priority. As provided by the Ellwood City Area School District, the following is ticket information for the Ellwood City Homecoming Football game this Friday. The Wolverines will host Beaver Falls at 7:00 p.m. at Helling Stadium. STUDENT TICKETS: Student Tickets will be sold Wednesday and Thursday during school hours in the Principal’s Office. Student tickets are $1.00. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE GAME. Mayor Anthony J. Court has announced this week a weekly radio show on WXED FM 107.3. DJ Ricky Venezie hosts to Mayor Court weekly with Mary Ann Schaffer also involved in the segment. The 64th annual Lincoln High School Homecoming football game will be played this Friday at 7:00 p.m. when the Wolverines will host the Beaver Falls Tigers. This year, Homecoming festivities will look a little different due to Covid-19. A Homecoming King will be crowned at a ceremony to take place at Helling Stadium at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. ECASD Board Votes to Allow 1/4 Capacity at District Events

The Ellwood City School Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to allow spectators at events at ¼ capacity, but those in attendance will be required to wear masks, to social distance, and to sign a waiver excusing the district from liability. In a 6-1 vote the board decided that Ellwood City sports will now be played with the support of the community. Director Gary Rozanski was the lone No vote, and Directors Kathy McCommons and Norman Boots were not in attendance during the vote.
