Ellwood City Wolves Club October Meeting Recap

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the Connequenessing Country Club. The Wolves Club, in conjunction with the Ellwood City Lions and the Rotary Clubs, host the Annual Oktoberfest which was held on Saturday, October 1, 2022. The Oktoberfest raised funds for all three organizations. These funds help with providing scholarships and support to local community projects. This month the Wolves donated $1,500.00 to the Ellwood City Meals on Wheels Program. VIDEO: Worker Dies After Falling From Tree

A man died Tuesday in an accident while cutting down a tree on the 400 block of Division Avenue. According to reports, a tree branch fell loose and hit the ladder underneath him causing the man to dangle from a rope around 30 feet in the air. Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers said he didn’t hit the ground but suffered cardiac arrest. He was hanging upside down for about 20 minutes until rescues could lower him to the ground. The man’s identity hasn’t been released. 


Bernstine Says House Fails to Override Governor’s Markie’s Law Veto

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives failed today to override Gov. Tom Wolf’s September veto of House Bill 146, authored by Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence), which focuses on the parole process for violent offenders in the wake of the 2019 murder of a child in Lawrence County. The measure needed a two-thirds majority (134 votes) to override the veto; 132 “yes” votes were cast. Every Republican House member voted “yes” to override the veto; however, some Democrats who originally voted in the affirmative, flipped their vote to support releasing violent criminals back onto our streets. POLICE: ECPD Alert Residents Of Recent Home Invasion

In a news release made available by the Ellwood City Police Department, police have apprehended three suspects in a recent home invasion and robbery. The report reads as follows: On October 14th at approximately 15:10 p.m., Ellwood City Police Department Officers were dispatched to an address in the 700 block of Line Avenue for reports of an armed robbery. The victim advised three males entered his residence with a gun and held the victim at gun point while they stole two pistols and multiple credit cards. New Social Services Sign Donated

A new sign was donated and installed at the Divine Grace Parish Ministerium Social Services Office at 311 Lawrence Avenue in July, Holy Redeemer Parish merged with St Ferdinand in Cranberry and St Gregory in Zelienople to create Divine Grace Parish. The Social Services sign was donated by the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council 11389 of Ellwood City. The Divine Grace Parish Ministerium Social Services Office handles approximately 350 clients from the Ellwood City area as well as coordinating appropriate assistance with area churches in the Ministerium. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

RETAIL THEFT: Mark Butler, 24, of Ellwood City, is charged with Retail Theft and Resisting Arrest after an incident on October 4th. According to the criminal complaint, and at approximately 11:45 p.m., Ellwood City Police responded to the Ellwood City Seven-Eleven for a reported theft. The store clerk told officers a male with dread locks had stolen a pack of cigars and was seen walking east on Wampum Avenue. Officers later located the male fitting the description and attempted to stop the man later identified as Butler. Butler would not listen and continued walking and yelling at officers. PENNDOT Announces Country Club Bridge Replacement Project

PennDot Engineering District 11-0 will be replacing the bridge over the Connoquenessing Creek on S.R. 0065 (Mercer Road) in a project set to commence in the summer of 2025. The project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase with the expectation of starting the final design phase in early 2023. The project is anticipated to let (i.e. bids for construction to be opened) during the first half of 2024 with the traffic detour implemented in the summer of 2025.
