Historical Society Starts New Year With Awards

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society had its first public meeting of 2024 at the History Center, 310 5th Street, on Monday evening, January 8, 2024. The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by 101 year old World War 2 veteran, Guy Prestia. Bernstine To Host “Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights” Seminar Jan. 16

HARRISBURG – Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) is offering residents of the 8th Legislative District the opportunity to learn more about Pennsylvania’s current gun laws during a “Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights” seminar on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Longtime BC3 President Nick Neupauer Announces Plans To Retire At End of Year

Butler –  The president of Butler County Community College for nearly a third of its existence today announced plans for his departure from the 59-year-old institution of higher education. Lincoln High School graduate Dr. Nick Neupauer, 56, and BC3’s Chief Executive Officer for 17 years, wrote in an email sent today to BC3 employees that he will retire December. 31st. The college’s board of trustees is aware of his decision, is “working on a smooth transition plan” and will make further announcements regarding the position of president, Neupauer wrote. Stonecrest Business Park Project Among Finalists For PA Strategic Investments Program

The Stonecrest Business Park project in Wampum was recently announced as one of only 20 applicants moving forward in a Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites Program. The program, administered by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development under the Pennsylvania First Program, provides grant funding to develop competitive sites and support relocation or expansion of businesses within the commonwealth. Congressman Mike Kelly Visits The Borough

Mayor Anthony Court welcomed Congressman Mike Kelly in the borough last Friday. Kelly was in the area and met with the mayor and Sgt. Michael McBride concerning grant funds for police funding. Court and McBride proposed several needs for the department and Congressman Kelly is trying to secure funds through grants. While in Lawrence County, the Congressman followed his visit to Ellwood City with a stop in Wampum to meet with Mayor Jesse Altman and local officials. Council Reorganizes, Reappoints Borough Manager

Ellwood City Borough Council held its reorganizational meeting on Tuesday January 3. In a unanimous vote, Brad Ovial was chosen as President and Michele Lamenza was chosen as Vice President. Borough Manager Kevin Swogger was reappointed in a 6-0 vote (Lamenza was absent from the meeting), for a two-year employment agreement for $80,000. General election incumbants George Celli and Caleb Cragle were sworn into office as well as new Councilman the Rev. James “Jimmy” Johnson.
