Art Students Prepare Wreaths for Senior Citizens

To kick off the giving season, senior citizens in two local nursing homes will be receiving hand crafted wreaths early in December. Progressive Home Health, a Monaca based home health care agency serving senior citizens in the local counties, has teamed up with the art students at Lincoln High School to create wreaths to give to local elderly patients for Christmas. Riverside, Ellwood City Students to Appear on KDKA’s High Q

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, students from Riverside and Ellwood were at KDKA studios, One Gateway Center in Pittsburgh, for the taping of Home Town High Q. Ellwood students Molly McCommons, Kyle Smith and Noah Rinker and Riverside students Morgan Deiseroth, Ari Kendra and Colby Belczyk represented the schools in the competition. Riverside competed alongside Ellwood City against Waynesburg. The students compete against the rival teams by answering questions over subjects taught in school, similar to how Jeopardy is played. Ellwood City School Board Regular Meeting Recap

With the newly elected board members among those in attendance, the Ellwood City School Board conducted its regular meeting and schedule of business Thursday night. Beyond the scheduled topics discussed, Kathy McCommons, Barb Wilson and Norm Boots all spoke briefly to the audience and board while Kathy Pansera, who did not win her seat back during Tuesday’s election, read a statement centered around the outsourcing subject. “I ask the union to please negotiate and remember the students and the community that they serve,” Pansera said. “I hope and pray that the union will choose to negotiate in good faith and…

Ellwood School District Explores Curtain Wall Project Options

The Ellwood City School Board is exploring options for Lincoln High to undergo what’s being called the Curtain Wall Project – an architectural renovation for more efficient insulation. A curtain wall system is an outer covering of a building in which the outer walls are non-structural, utilized to keep the weather out and the occupants in. Since the curtain wall is non-structural, it can be made of lightweight materials, thereby reducing construction costs. Meet the Cast Part 1: Little Woman

Lincoln High School will be performing the classic tale, Little Woman as their musical this year. According to Laura Adam, the Musical Director, the musical will showcase the talent of the students who have dedicated a lot of time and energy to their roles. “We start a workshop in June with 3-4 different shows and choose the one that best suits the students. United Fund Annual Campaign

The United Fund will start its annual campaign drive on October 1st for the year 2018. Over the past few years, we find ourselves behind in meeting weekly goals to reach the $50,000.00 that is needed to support the United Fund agencies. We usually receive donations and pledges that equal approximately 80% of what is needed. We would encourage everyone in the Ellwood City area to reflect on what they may share with others who are less fortunate than ourselves, so we can make a difference in their lives.
