Dollars for Scholars: Ellwood City Wolves Club Awards $14,930.00 in Scholarships

NORTH SEWICKLEY TWP.- Students, family and friends, along with the Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II members, gathered to celebrate the awarding of scholarships at their annual scholarship dinner on May 20 at the Connoquenessing Country Club. The Wolves Club announced that $14,930 in scholarships will be awarded this year to a total of ten Lincoln and Riverside seniors to help fund their college education. Ellwood City Residents Raise Awareness: Scam Calls

Caller ID spoofing and scam phone calls are at an all-time high and these calls are impacting many Ellwood City residents. Ellwood City Police Department received a call from Beverly Hazen about a possible scam phone call she received. Hazen received a call from a man pretending to be her grandson. The man stated he had been arrested in Philadelphia for a DUI. The man wanted Hazen to send money to bail him out of jail. She felt odd about the situation and hung up on the man. The Cigar Shoppe located on Lawrence Avenue had its grand opening last weekend. Steve Busby and Rich Yonlisky partnered up to create the first cigar shop located centrally in Ellwood City. Ellwood City Native Takes on Independent Electric Utilization Study

Liz Prence, a native of Ellwood City is doing an independent study to help people find the reason for their high electric utilization. Prence has over 35 years experience in data analysis and quality control, she has a Bachelors in biochemistry and is currently chief quality officer for Healthmap Solutions. The study will help provide information and effective solutions to people who have excessively high electric bills by determining the cause of the discrepancies seen among electric customers. “We are all charged the same rate per KWH, yet many residents don’t have high electric bills (me, for example),” Prence said….

This week’s Old Photo Friday, courtesy of the Ellwood City Historical Society is a photo of Ellwood City’s Mckim Way flooded when the Connoquenessing Creek overflowed. Its banks rose to a three-foot level in some of the cottages, while outside water was waist high in some places. Ellwood City’s Own Clock Tower Fairy

Cassandra Douglas, Ellwood City Native has written a children’s book centered on the Ellwood City Lincoln Clock Tower. “The Clock Tower Fairy: Ellwood City Tales Book One,” is about a timekeeping fairy, who has to change the clock every hour when her sand timer runs out. An Ellwood City tradition continued Friday, May 4 at Sons of Italy Hall. For the 71st consecutive year Lincoln High School juniors, seniors and their guests enjoyed the after prom party provided by the Ellwood City After Prom Committee. The prom king and queen of the night were, King Jarrett Lubich and Queen Grace Blake. DJ Ken Raisor of Sabre David Entertainment provided the music for dancing. New Dimension Comics Hosts 3 Rivers Comicon For 3rd Year!

Featuring comic book vendors, publishers, and over 100 artists, 3 Rivers Comicon returns to West Mifflin.  The convention will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, 2018. 2018 Lincoln High School Prom “Written in the Stars”

The 2018 Lincoln High School Prom “Written in the Stars” will be held on Friday May 4th, 2018 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, New Castle Pa. The annual Lincoln High School promenade will begin at 5:30. Doors open at 5:00 and tickets can be purchased at the door or in the High School Office. Ticket’s for this years promenade are $3.00 a piece and seating is first come first serve. Following the Promenade students will enjoy dinner and dancing at Scottish Rite Cathedral from 6:00 – 11:00 before returning to the SOI in Ellwood City for the traditional After Prom event….
