Ellwood City Native Takes on Independent Electric Utilization Study

Liz Prence, a native of Ellwood City is doing an independent study to help people find the reason for their high electric utilization.

Prence has over 35 years experience in data analysis and quality control, she has a Bachelors in biochemistry and is currently chief quality officer for Healthmap Solutions.

The study will help provide information and effective solutions to people who have excessively high electric bills by determining the cause of the discrepancies seen among electric customers.

“We are all charged the same rate per KWH, yet many residents don’t have high electric bills (me, for example),” Prence said.

“Therefore, a reduction in the rate will not solve the problem of the high bills some are experiencing. For example, a 20% reduction in the rate for a $400 monthly bill will still result in a bill of approximately $320.  That is still high.”

The study has two aspects:  utilization and technical

For utilization, residents are being asked to voluntarily complete an Energy Review Checklist which details the sources of electric use in their homes.

The data will then be organized and compared across home sizes and locations, as well as the types and number of electronics in the home.  The goal is to identify trends and discrepancies.

For the technical part, equipment used for determination of electric usage is being studied, which includes evaluation and understanding how meters and electronic meter readers function, along with recommended quality control processes and actual processes.

According to Prence, once the study is completed, we will better understand the reasons for high electric bills, and we should be able to identify ways to lower them.

Checklists are also available at the Ellwood City Area Public Library or by emailing Liz Prence at liz.prence@gmail.com.

The very fact that you have to have a study says it all, it’s a scam, always has been.. as a Pennsylvania resident I have the right to choose my own electric provider, except in Ellwood city.. they have secret meetings, overpay the police, etc. There is no formula, it’s just to high and as they need more money.for the racket they just raise cost again and again. Just allow me a choice.
